Running shimano 520 spd at the moment and im finding when i unclip for a tight wet muddy corner i cannot get back in quick enough to do whatever comes next which usually means i stop and end up walking more than i should.

Do shimano make anything similar to the crank brothers malet or do i need to bite the bulet?

Mallet dh, love them in all conditions and the platform is good enough to run a few corners if you don't clip in.

I rode various Shimano SPDs for 20 years (last set were XTR Trails) but moved to Mallet E's last year and haven't looked back since. Perfect in combo with Specialized 2FO Cliplite shoes

Make sure you get the right match for your wheel size.

I think Shimano do some DH ones. M647s? Never used them so can't comment.

Don't unclip, means you are in even less control of the bike.

Why can't you get clipped back in again out of curiosity? Have you been using them long?

Unless my cleats are totally bogged up with mud, I've never had an issue. You are talking M520 right, not A520? 😉

I've never quite understood pedals like Mallets, don't they catch when you're unclipping? I've got a set of XT trails as well, but I don't seem to make any contact with the cage, making them effectively just M520s again.

M520

I've been unable to reclip after going round a very steep off camber very tight corner (also very wet and muddy/slippy) when immediately after there are a number or roots and little jumps as I'm being bashed round all over the place I just cannot manage it until things calm down a bit

I don't need to unclip when its dry but when its wet me I everybody I've seen doing this unclips and dabs a foot on the corner.

I guess with the Mallets I could run unclipped briefly?

Just smash your foot on the pedal until the mud falls out or the cleats engage, like a CX rider

An impressive collection - I wonder if they are a Mudhoney fan!
