Looking for a new fork, 160mm 27.5"
Lyric - dislike that they seem to be making it harder to get spares for.
Fox 36 - Lot of cash for what it is and the damping seems more focused on big adjustability from the outside.
Manitou Mezzer - I really like the idea of this one. Good technical support from Manitou and they encourage customer tinkering with the tune which is a way I'd prefer to go rather than 217 clicks of HSC. However, Hotlines. Not great at carrying spares or supporting anything they import. Only slightly better than Planet X in that respect.
So, any other suggestions for tinkerable enduro fork?
DVO seem to be tinkerable. I have a new Diamond in the shed I haven't tried, but reports on them are pretty good.
EXT have a fork coming soon, will be Fox money, but Mojo/Geometron will set it up or you, and they're great to deal with.
As it is, they sell Formula Selva - they offer a bunch of differnt compression shim thingummies that you can just screw into the top cap to change the damping, that's probably the most user friendly compression tuning that's out there, and separate positive and negative air for further tinkering
[s]Lyric[/s] Lyrik – dislike that they seem to be making it harder to get spares for.
What spares do you need for the Lyrik that you cant get?
There was a thread on here only the other day, someone needed a new top cap for the damper but TFT had confirmed that they don't make damper parts available as spares.
^^ that doesn't sound too far off ... I cant get an LSC knob for my Mattocs without buying the whole damper it seems

Lord only knows how people quote other threads in a thread.
Postierich is running a Cane Creek Helm on his Sonder, I think it is 150mm fork. Says its buttery smooth and it hasn't fallen apart in a year of Lakeland abuse.
I've mostly had Lyriks and Pikes the last 7 years and have no complaints whatsoever about reliability, spares, wear, servicing or performance. They quietly do what I want with little fuss.

Never had an issue getting any spares I’ve needed for RockShox forks or shocks tbh! Doubt any others would be much better.
Ohlins RXF36 Evo?
I'm running an MRP Ribbon Coil. It has the MRP Ramp Control built into it, which is handy. Other than that it just has low speed comp and rebound so not sure it'll have enough knobs for you to mess about with. But it is a very good fork.
I've a mate with an MRP. He's happy with the fork, but service requires a lot of proprietary tooling so they were sent off. What a palaver that turned out to be as they ballsed it up first time.
Onzadog just out of curiosity as i have 2 ribbon coils. What proprietary tools were required?
Ive only ever done the lower service and coil change so just being nosy really.
Cheers
*waves*
I'm the one Onzadog mentioned.
i have MRP stage forks on an older bike now. Full Service was an absolute ball ache. There were some tools that were required that cost an absolute fortune (I was told £700) and there wasn’t enough demand locally for my preferred service place to get the kit in.
the first service they had was done by ISON, the importers and they made an absolute arse of it. It took ages, the forks were caked in grease when they were returned and then had to go back a few weeks later to fix their fault.. that took 3 weeks as they forgot to send them back.
I have since discovered jtech in Shropshire who were absolutely bloody magnificent. Based on there service alone I’d have MRP again but would always warn people looking for recommendations that the forks are brilliant, the servicing network limited.
I'm on a borrowed Helm at the mo, waiting for my Helm 2 to arrive. Not had it long enough to comment on reliability.
I've been pretty impressed with others I've ridden (compared to the assorted Pikes I've owned), although apparently the v1 works much better with lighter oil, which is one of the updates for the V2. Both the axle and the air volume adjust thingy are irritatingly overdesigned on the V1 too, but certainly they've changed the axle for the new one.
Lower leg service and travel adjust is pretty easy DIY, but I think Cane Creek are quite cagey about letting the DIYers much further inside than that.
I kind of hear you on the fox 36 grip2
I have one, it’s incredible and I love it, but you are one accidental click away from it feeling awful! Literally, on the recommended setting from Trek it is spot on, just enough small bump compliance, supportive, stiff, never gets overwhelmed and spiky. One click on any adjuster and it’s worse 😂 Also needs it annual service, noticed mine was losing performance in a noticeable way after about 11 months. A refresh at tf tuned and it’s back to being the best thing since sliced bread, so long as you don’t touch the dials!
MartynZ, thanks for the reply. I need my damper serviced soon so Jtech are probably going to get my hard earned.
Yea I had a problem with ISON a while back. Very poor service so have had the forks with TF Tuned since then who were awesome as usual.
Cheers
I really like my Lyrik RC2 - interesting to see that when Manitou benchmarked the Mezzer the Lyrik was quite a bit stiffer than a 36.
But now that Cane Creek have updated the Helm so it’s not as heavily damped, I’d seriously consider that.
Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil?
Simple but effective GRIP damper, coil plushness, wallet friendly.

Similar price to a Lyrik, or perhaps more expensive IRL though.
It'd be between one of them or a Lyrik for me, but I'm a "fit and forget" kinda guy.
another vote for the Ohlins RXF Evo. available from the also mentioned J-Tech (or they were at least when i bought mine) been utterly magic so far over the last 8 months or so
what spare parts are you looking for with a fork?
I'd be going for the mezzer over a lyric or 36 or Ohlins.
I don't know what spares I need but I know I tend to look after kit and keep it for the long haul. The thought of that being cut short because a manufacturer (or distributor) considers the product disposable bothers me and I'd like to exercise my consumer choice and support a company that will support me.
There is a little corner of my mind that is thinking Yari - smashpot - Avalanche.
I'm looking Ohlins RXF36 m.2, just waiting to see what the RockShox Zeb is like before I buy it.
My 6 year old Avalanche Pike is still my favourite performing fork and it continues to show up modern stuff. It has also been the most fit and forget fork I've ever owned, utterly reliable*, and is dead easy to service.
*Unfortunately while the Avalanche damper has been reliable the crown/steerer started creaking quite badly a few months ago so took it off the bike and replaced it with a Lyrik RC2, which is nowhere near as good, so the options appear to be to repair the Pike or look at getting an Avy damper for the Lyrik as I do like the extra stiffness.
A mate who works in a bike shop says good things about X-Fusion Metrics.

seals are easy to come by and if CRC don't have it then its easy to get from Germany etc. I got my mezzer from starbike. The damping and air spring are what sold me on the mezzer over the lyric.
Starbike is where I was looking. Are they the revised lowers from there?
I'd be going Mezzer. The Mattocs I'm riding at the moment have been fantastic. Far better than the tftuned coil + fast suspension damper in my Pikes on the other bike. I've been really impressed with the latest Manitou stuff, so easy to service at home (or tune)
Are they the revised lowers from there
mine aren't but there is no real difference between the lowers.
Cheers. I thought there were issues with bushings and bottom out bumpers on the early ones. Just want to try and avoid older stock that might have those issues if I'm going to buy from abroad.
Very early batch had bushing issues but they were very small numbers. Bottom out is again a very small %. Mine is a relatively old manufacturer date and it’s perfectly fine.
That's reassuring, thanks.
I've serviced my MRP ribbon spent £40 on the damper bleed tools and thats it for special tools.
I tried to get them from Ison through a local shop with a Ison account, 10 weeks after ordering they hadn't got them so I went direct to MRP who are great to deal with.
