I've been mtbing a few years so I've got some experience but I've been thinking about entering the Hardtail category at Eastridge this weekend.
I don't have any Armour or a full face helmet; will I die?
Any other tips?

After my (short) experience in riding rigid bike on designed "enduro" trails, I would put some money into knee pads. Armour and fullface - depends on how fast are you, I guess.

there's nothing at eastridge to be scared about, kneepads and helmet are sufficient.
