Didn't do it last year. Lots of lovely singletrack, hills were OK too. My back seized up after 4 hours but I still had fun. Highlight for me was remembering I had Randoms in my back pocket.

The word on Twitter is that it was a 1-2 for Shaun and Chris from Cookson Cycles.

Great course, 6 laps solo, hot, dry, very dusty and a stuffed back limited my ride. No idea if it was the same as last year.

Cracking course for the big wheeled single speeders. Many thanks to Pop Larkin for the loan of a 20 tooth cog. Without it my back would be fine.

That was a cracking course, Singletrack-tastic! Needed a dust mask at points though! 🙂

good effort on the solo Picto, you looked like you enjoyed the leffe at the end 😀

if the chap with the on-one carbon 29er (grimey limey I think)reads this it was a teambeer EBB converter that should fit it not homebrewed components, they make nice chainrings Doh!

+1 on the fantastic course.

First time I've done it and as a pair we managed 11 laps. 6 for me and felt OK apart from a painful lower back, so might have to try an event solo at some point.

Great course and apart from some minor changes the course was much the same

Bike ride and beer a winning combination (the joy of not having to drive to/from the event. The thermal properties of a fleece jacket never cease to amaze, leffe was still cold. Did not dull the pain of the aching back though.

Rode as a single speed pair great day out.. think I saw you big wheel ss toward the end. Time for curry I think let's hope it never rains at a race at catton again. Bring on sleepless.

It was a great course - Catton is brilliant in the dry. Let's hope SITS is the same (and Mayhem).

Thought I'd leave the Rohloff at home and give the singlespeed a go for a change.
Did a 32 minute practice lap on Saturday afternoon.
No chance of holding that pace for six hours, but if I could lap in <36 minutes I could get 10 laps in in under six hours and go out for an 11th.

First lap in 38 minutes, a bit slow because of the run.
By about half way through a few fastish laps put me 8 minutes ahead of schedule though.
After 7 laps the hills started getting steeper and I was walking more of them.
Out on my 10th lap and the creaking from my handlebars turned out to be them working loose. I wasted a couple of minutes stopping to tighten them and never made it back up.
I finished my 10th lap at 6:01:12, just missing out on an 11th.

7th/20 Elite Men
36th/136 solo men overall

The new Vegan Cyclist Race HQ. 😀

It's steeper than it looks, honest. Especially on a 34x19.

Well done Andy, a full lap ahead in the Elite Men.

Had a great one today pairing up with Tazzy doing the SS crew proud.

1st time i've done an event singlespeed and loved it.

Very tired after doing rollapaluza the night before in London and arriving at catton at 3am

Interested to see the lap times

Millcar - what number were you?

MidlandTrailquestsGraham - interesting to see you rode in Elite. I did 11 laps in 6.26 (unlike you I just scraped in for that last one just before the clock!) However I rode in Fun and got 21st. Does that mean if I'd have ridden Elite I'd have got better than 7th?

Oh, and JohnOne72, was that you with Henry(?) next to me in the pits? (me riding an Anthem in XXCMag kit)

Great day, rode last year as a mixed pair with the wife, did 10 laps this year, 1 more than last year and got to top up my tan! Thanks to the wiggle boys for the lend of their bb tool (always forget at least one thing each time I race!). Looking forward to seeing the lap times, had to leave to get a pint before they put the final results up! 🙂

Anyone know what distance a lap was? We managed 11 laps as ss pair team mate had a hard time with cramp on his last couple of laps.

Soop

I was an asthmatic looking 75 🙂

There were a few snappers out with fancy looking photo type machines.

Vdubber, the categories are meaningless without any sort of BC style ranking system, that's why I always quote my overall position rather than just my position in the Elite class.
I don't really consider myself an elite rider, it's just that I think of Fun Class as being for those who are either not really racing or are pot hunting. 😉

Soops, or anyone else, any pictures of number 10 wearing black & green kit please ?

Incidentally, did anyone notice who was last in the Fun Men Pairs class ? 😀

Best ignore the classes i reckon.one guy was placed in the fun tt and the elite enduro.

Fair play as both wereld a good effort!!

The guy I bought my singlespeed off came 2nd overall solo male at SITS last year.
He was racing in Fun Pairs yesterday for a proper sponsored team.
I asked him if he didn't think he ought to be in Elite class and he said "No, I don't hold a BC Elite racing licence"

10th (11 laps) in the Fun Solo Male for me, great event. I entered the Elite/Expert btw.

Photos anyone.

It said Expert not Elite on the prizes.
Either way, there's always the same discussion after endurance races with arbitrary categories.

There isn't a ranking system for endurance and there are plenty of fast people who don't hold a BC license or race XC.

Fair play - now more importantly, have you got a gold chain on that SS of yours, or is it REALLY rusty!? 😉

I was too busy shouting at people to get many photos. My Ixus compact isn't great for action shots!

40th in mens pairs on silly singlespeeds whilst having a jolly time and not taking it seriously and sharing sweeties and banter with people as we were cycling. 😀

will have to go against the SS secret code and be try hards next time and see if we can do any better

Thanks Soops. I've saved that picture, it's only for web use so don't worry about emailing me a bigger version.
That bit past the start and finish was one of the few places flat enough to take one hand off the bars for a drink.

Regarding the comments on my chain, I think I over oiled it. That's a thick layer of dust stuck to it, not rust.
