Because of the restrictions in marking out and motorcycle use I will be severely hampered in marking out and policing the course. So for this event and next year’s races we are going to start to rely heavily on GPS although you still won’t know where the stages are! You will be able to download the course via the website the Friday before the race so you will need to have a form of GPS device in order to race. Once at your stage you can pack it away into your backpack ready to rip! This takes a lot of strain off me marking out and packing away and also foils the saboteurs. If you don’t have a GPS then try and buddy up with a mate who does. I will still mark the course out but mainly at junctions and confidence markers
eh?
Well that strategy is of no use to me. Money back time me thinks.
Well thats about as usefull as tits on a nun.
Won't be bothering with that again.
Shame, would have probably given that a go otherwise.
Will they be using Strava for the timing too?
Presumably it's just the linking sections, and if they dont have to mark those as much then they can cancentrate on marking the timed sections properly and avoiding the problems other enduro's have had with people getting creative in their interpretations of the course?
Doesnt sound too bad unless I'm missing something? Just use your GPS to get to the stage starts, not a biggie really. The stages will be marked. The problem Carlos has had in the past is that people can remove the waymarkers to each stage making it tough to find the starts.
Yeah but how many people that do enduro races ride with a gps device on their handlebars? They had enough problems with people getting lost on the FoD one and that was fully marked in between stages. I can see that these things are not easy to organise and i appreciate his efforts in making an attempt but it seems to be a case of do it properly or not at all. I see they have lifted the entry numbers from 80 to 180 so decrease marking work load and increase numbers? Sounds like Alan Sugar has taken over.
You dont need to look at the GPS all the time, it doesnt have to be on handlebars. I use Viewranger on my phone, look at it, get a rough idea - "continue and take the 3rd left" sort of thing and put it in my pocket. Get it out when needed.
You have plenty of time between stages. The last one I did, we had loads of time spare, in fact due to signage removal we did almost double the distance between stages once and still made it with a couple of mins to spare!
