It seems to be changing over the last few years? I recently got a 2016 Cannondale F-SI 2. Out of the box, the geometry is a lot different to my last carbon 29er hardtail (Avanti competitor), which was new at the start of 2013.
Its about one cm shorter in the reach (with the same length stem), the head angle feels noticeably slacker and the bars are a lot wider. On cornering it feels nearly more like my enduro bike than my last 29er race hardtail. I have the handlebar height the same as my last HT.
My understanding is that Cannondale and other manufacturers are designing these bikes now with better geometry for descending in mind? While still being more than capable on the climbs of course.
I'm in two minds about whether to get this new bike fitted measured up for me at a bike fit service which I have done in the past, as I have a feeling they might not be in tune with the recent riding style and current geometry on endurance race bikes. I'm afraid it will go back to being stretched out and take away from the original bike design.
What are peoples thoughts on the current changes and this 'new school' geometry?
Be good to hear some other thoughts. Cheers.
Gold star if you notice another website/forum where I posted this also 😛 .
My 29er XC FS is of the new style geo you speak of, slacker HA, steeper SA, long top tube and I just set it up so I was comfortable.
Seems to work
Bump.
Cheers. Although as I mentioned, the reach is 5mm shorter on my new rig, 1cm if you count the sweep on the bars.
Maybe reach is getting shorter again?
