I am soon to start commuting a minimum of 6 miles each way to work for 6 months, I say minimum as I will probably extend the commute home to around 15 miles.

I work shifts so can start work at 6am and as it’s such a short commute putting my bib tights, base layer, jacket etc takes longer than the commute itself.

Could Endura trousers be a quicker solution? I could also use them for mountain biking through the worst of the winter.

Does anyone have any experience of them? And is it worth paying for the MT500 over the singletrack versions?

I live in a pair of Endura Humvee trousers during the winter, but they are not the best thing for on the bike in the wet. They just get to be a soggy mess that actually makes you colder. Wet, muddy material flapping about your legs.

You're getting dressed anyway so you may as well put the correct things on. During my short winter commutes I used the wear thermal base layers, top and bottoms, with a jacket and water proof over trousers. Too warm for longer commutes but for 10 miles it's fine. When the roads were very wet or it actually raining I'd wear over shoes too.

LOL if you can do 6 miles quicker than that they are probably hiring for the next Olympics 😉

If your getting changed at the other end then just go for the ride gear but lay it out ready perhaps

I probably wouldn't bother with bibs for 5 miles, or 15, probably. Get a comfier saddle?  I've got a pair of Hagloffs softshell hiking trousers I ride in through the winter.  The keep the cold off my knees, comfy to walk and bike in, and dry really quickly.  Nice cut too, look like normal trousers.  Worth trying on a few pairs in Cotswolds or similar.

I did buy a pair of MT500 trousers for a long winter bivi ride last year. Not the full on waterproof ones, the water resistant softshell ones.  Used them a few times on local mtb loops when it was filthy and cold.  Lovely to ride with warm knees, and unexpectedly pleasurable to peel them off in the garage and have clean legs underneath!  They do look odd off the bike, though.
