You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
In my never ending quest to find an MTB Baggy short I have been looking at Endura Humvees and Singletracks. Everything pair of shortsI have tried recently has been either made of paper, had no useful pockets, are too short especially when seated or just a total rip off at £85+.
My last pair of Endura shorts were Humvees in 2006 and they fell apart in 2 weeks so I have not bought any Endura stuff since then.
Are the Humvees or Singletracks durable these days or are do they still fall apart?
Tried Madison?.
Most of my current MTB Kit is Endura and nothing has fallen apart in recent years. I rate the MTR shorts and have ones that are a couple of yrs old and still going strong. They are worn and washed weekly.
I've got a pair of Humvee's bought back in June that have been worn and washed between 2 and 3 times a week ever since (so 4-5 months) and they're as good as the day I got them.
Also got another pair that I bought back in 2010 that saw a couple of years service before injury forced a several year hiatus. They're still going strong with the only sign of wear being a little bit of seam stitching coming lose on the liner. Not worn so much now as they're a little large on my newly svelte physique!
Oh, the belts are too skinny and the belt clasp seems to be more decorative than anything else. This is true for both pairs but, as long as that doesn't bother you, I would recommend. They're not fancy but they certainly do the job!
Got a couple of their shorts, and their bib thingy for winter riding. Really rate these, they've put up with some rite hammer. Ride 6 days a week in all conditions.
Bought some of their gloves recently. Split down the seam on index finger after one ride.
Agree with uphillstruggle- the waist cinch bands are basically pointless.
2 pairs of Humvee's here, had them about 2 years and no issues whatsoever.
Have 2 pairs of Humvees from 2011-ish, one still more or less as new, and one just beginning to get a slight hole in the seat area
I've a couple of pairs of each and a pair of mtr ones. No problems with any of them over the last few years, out of the three I like the humvees best(The fit seems best for me and they seem a bit longer too), then the singletracks (although not much in it), I don't really like the mtr's though. They are really thin and there's not as many pockets as the others, although this is just my preference as there is nothing wrong with them otherwise.
Tried Madison?.
No but look a bit too short? I am 6' but have a 33-34" leg so find most shorts sit too high on the knee.
So mostly positive about the Humvee except the crappy belt? What about the singletrack? That has velcro tabs on the side.
I'm 2 inches taller, 34" leg, and have 4 pairs. 2 pairs of the old addict that refuse to die, a pair of Zeniths that are a bawhair larger sized, and a pair of the new DWR ones, that are superb.
Canny fault them, but I wear shinpads on every ride, so length not really an issue for me.
I’ve been rotating 4/5 pairs of Humvees for the last 10 years
1 pair got left at the gym.
1 pair repaired due a stitching failure. In fairness they were 5 years old and had been roundly abused.
1 pair repaired after they had the arse burnt out of them on a massive slide. Not Endura’s fault.
2 pairs in mint condition.
I’ve got another pair stashed away should I set fire to myself or leave them in a darkened carpark.
Wear them pretty much all year round in the house and they are great for days out with the family because you can get so much in the pockets.
Can’t fault them. I don’t even look for anything else.
With regard to the crappy belt, on my Humvee's that are now too big, I just bought one of these for a fiver: Craghoppers Kiwi Clip Belt .
I've got the MT500 Spray Shorts. Have only been on about 5 rides but they are comfortable and seem very well made, got them at a bargain £40 on tredz
I love the mt500 spray shorts but ripped the arse out of one pair and know the same is going to happen again. They just seem to grab the saddle in the wrong place as I dismount, but the fit and function is excellent.
My other pair are ST2 which I bought 2nd hand off here about 7 years ago. I didn't expect them to last and the arse seam came part fairly quickly. The misses sewd them up and they're still going strong, they've become my old, reliable black labrador of bike shorts now - I'll be very sad to see em go.

My first pair is still going strong after 3 years of year-round abuse. Better than any Endura shorts I've had and can usually be had for around £40 if you shop around. They're nice and long in the leg too.

I've had a pair of Humvees for a few years which are fine, but my go to shorts have been raceface ambush. Unfortunately I've almost worn a hole in them so I thought I'd give singletracks a go. Well they don't half feel flimsy and like a pair of cheap school PE shorts. They're going straight back! Gonna have to stump up the extra for another pair of ambush methinks.
I've had Humvees and they weren't bad but I lost weight and replaced them madison flux and Zenith's and then a pair of singletracks.
Tbh I've stopped using my endura shorts and only wear the Madison's now
+1 for madison stuff. Seems to have held up to a couple of seasons of gritty arse saddle interfacing.
