I'm getting tempted to try a pair of these new fangled "riding pants". I usually hate trying to ride in trousers of any sort, but I can see the appeal for more gravity biased filth sessions.
(current wet weather wear of choice is bib shorts, softshell leg warmers, Madison waterproof(ish) baggy shorts over the top. Add kneepads as desired)
I ordered a pair of Madison Zenith Trousers a couple of weeks back, but despite my waterproof shorts being a good fit, these were way too big for my 30" waist, and the crotch was halfway to my knees.
Just tried a pair of the Endura Spray Trousers, which are a much better fit. (still need a belt, mind). I've mixed experience with Endura kit - some is amazing, some is bloody appalling, so wondered what the feedback is? Initial thoughts are that the actual waterproof panel on the arse isn't that big, and that I bet the "DWR Finish" elsewhere lasts all of 10 minutes in actual real world conditions, and I'd guess that they get all horrible and clingy when soaked through in proper rain.
£100 is the upper end of the budget range, as this is a bit of an experiment, so fully waterproof is out, and I wouldn't be happy binning it and tearing a £150 pair of trousers anyway!
Experiences/thoughts/suggestions...?
Thanks!
Endura have a 90 day return on products, wear for a while and see if they are for you. Found out the full waterproof were not for me a bit boil in bag. Sent back via lesuirelakes for a refund
Okay for a quick shower ride or when really cold out there, but waterproof they are not!!!
The spray trousers are just that - good for a little bit of spray.
They’re a good shape, you can squeeze thinnish pads under them and if you don’t catastrophically destroy them then endura fix them very reasonably. I had a good 1” hole repaired for £15 last year, they’re still going strong. Yes the dwr wears off but they’re still doing grand on colder just after it’s been raining/puddles on the ground days.
i’d say they’re one of the better items of kit endura does.
I bought some last year and have been very impressed with them all round. Maybe not the choice if you want to ride for 2 hours in heavy rain, as I discovered the other week, but otherwise they're excellent.

That’s just Endura for you. You could buy the same product twice and have totally different experiences
So this ties in with something I've been wondering the last couple of weeks. I've had a pair of the MT500 Spray trousers for a couple of years now and find them to be excellent through almost all of the late autumn-winter-deep winter-early spring period. I find them to be plenty warm enough with a pair of thermal shorts on underneath for all the way down below zero and plenty water resistant enough for 90% of wet weather rides. Overall I'd say excellent, I've also not seen any sign of wear in that time either, they seem to be holding up well.
But.... as has been mentioned above, they are not waterproof if it's wetter than an otter's pocket out there and hitting bigger puddles I find i get a splash of water right up me trooser leg which isn't nice at all.!
So my question is, what's the next step up.? Full waterproof but ideally still thermally suitable for winter riding.? Not interested in waterproof trousers for milder weather, got plenty of shorts for that. Current front runner seems to be the 7Mesh Thunder Pant but that's kinda spendy and difficult to find in stock anywhere.!?
Thoughts..? (and yes I'm aware I can get gore-tex trousers from the army/navy store!)
I do rate them. Wear them most rides and dog walks this time of year. Keep 90% of the weather out, as mentioned above. Quick drying and warm too.
However, all three pairs of mine have had the inner liner fabric pull away from the waterproof mid layer after a few months’ use. Endura warrantied the first two pairs no quibble. I’ll use my current ones through the winter and see what they’re like in the spring. Surely shouldn’t happen on a premium product, or am I expecting too much?

For me they are a step up in quality over Endura, ...they do size up similar to Endura as well, because I don't fit either :(.
I’ve purchased some in the last 6 weeks and I’m impressed. They do run warm but notably in a 4 hour hike-a-bike epic through ever increasing snow I stayed warm. And on Christmas Eve I warm them in very damp conditions over the Dales (classic heavy mizzle!) and though I was damp at the end, I was warm. I was using a mud guard and didn’t have to take my under shorts off to drive home. They are very comfortable to wear and pedal in though v different to wearing lycra. I like them.
Ive had a pair of the MT500's for a couple of years now and just before xmas they ripped in the crotch having gotten caught on the saddle one too many times. Endura will fix them for £15 so not the end of the world. As above not very waterproof but keep the muck off well and good for really cold days. I also have the full waterproof onesie which is excellent and used on full on wet ebike rides which means the full waterproof trousers work well.
An alternative that I have also bought recently are the decathlon trousers.... at 40 quid I REALLY rate them and for non waterproof trousers they are probably a really good benchmark.
I have a pair of brand new blue ones, in medium, that I bought a few weeks ago. They are too long for me, and so keen to move for a reasonable price… £60 posted ? Please PM if interested.
I use endura mtr trousers. They will keep you dry and comfortable in minging weather for at least a couple of hours. Probably too warm for more than about 10c though.
MT500 Spray may be waterproof against a bit of drizzle but wet foliage and even one decent deep puddle and they are wet through, shins and, eventually arse.
Trousers are nice but may be very hot IF they are proper waterproof (e.g. the old zip off Humvee which can stand a deluge).
I'm getting on better with old model Madison DTE waterproof shorts worn with kneepads and sealskinz. Much better ventilation - but, of course, you do lose the trousers off = I'm clean - car transition at ride end.
I know some have issues with Sealskinz but mine seem fine, I am very careful not up pull them on roughly, there's a membrane in there which must be damageable and may account for the complaints here. .
I really like riding in trousers - I have the Endura spray ones. As above, they're not waterproof, but they keep the spray off my shins. Coupled with boots with mini-gaiters, my feet stay dry. Even if the trouser material gets saturated, they are stiff enough and the fit is good so they don't cling to my legs.
However, mine have gone at the crotch seam and Endura have been useless about replying to my warranty queries. It's been going on for months. Unless their customer service comes good soon, I'm not going to recommend them. Alpkit's garmin repair may have to come to the rescue.
Never used trousers before either, always bibtights under Endura shorts. After a couple of freezing rides in Aviemore a couple of weeks ago I ordered the Endura MT500 Freezing Point trousers. They arrived just in time for the 15 degree Christmas weather!!
Good fit though - 31" waist and Small size for me, and they have a soft lining which helps avoid any clinging, even on a rather hot test ride. Seen them at £107, I paid £119.
Pleased so far.
I’ve just picked a pair up from Leisure lakes for £50. Bargain

This is what I wear. Either MT500 II waterproof shorts or longer magic waterproof shorts. No issues with sealakinz either.

What was it you got for £50.? I had a quick peek and the MT500 trousers are still £109..?? Did you mean shorts.?
