Are they worth the £300+ price?

Need some new waterproofs, they are used for commuting and on the MTB so have a high amount of use

The MT500 jacket and trousers seem to fit the bill, lots of pockets (i prefer not to carry a bag on MTB rides) lots of vents and adjustability

My only concern is the hood, if not being used when raining (when the weather is warmer but still raining) do they tend to get waterlogged?

My current ones are a Altura Nevis jacket and a pair of Madison 4 season trousers, both have seen better days due to rips/tears and being 4 years old

Just been trying to find a replacement for my mate , his MT500 has got a busted zip . I’ve read reviews on the new version and apparently the more environmentally friendly manufacturing process has led to a less waterproof jacket 😞 My go to is Madison DTE but they seem really hard to find now so maybe they are going to be replaced by a less bomb proof more “ green “ version . As for hoods don’t get me started ! The quicker that trend dies out the better ! 🙄

Save your money. My MT500 jacket is 100% not waterproof. Was good until the dwr wore off so about 30hrs ish. Now it wets out and I freeze. Feel a bit conned by the company and the reviews tbh.
So far my Columbia outdry replacement has been perfect, but I've only put about 20hrs of heavy rainfall onto it so far.

How’s the Columbia when riding? Looks like it could get toasty?

My Rab Spark is on its way out but that’s after a good few years of abuse. Had the mt500 on my list but after reading this not so sure.

I have ditched mine after a very wet ride last summer. This was not a bit of leakage this was a full on soaking. We have not had good experiences of Endura waterproofs and will now buy something else.

Yep the Columbia does get hot and sweaty. Thing is, when it's really howling and chucking it down and you're heading up and up into the wildness of it all, hot and sweaty is an absolute flippin godsend! The alternative is hypothermia, bad decisions and definitely a thoroughly miserable time. Too hot? Just undo a zip or two.

The genius of the outdry is that because it can not wet out, you never get windchill from evaporative cooling. On a windy day, ten mins after the rain has stopped, all the droplets have blown off and you can put it away dry.
I'd imagine the Gore Shakedry is the ultimate in breathability and the above, but I see the outdry as a more durable companion.

The Endura is a beautifully made jacket btw. The zips, fit and features are top notch. But it's not waterproof at all after one bikepacking trip.

I've been considering an MT500 after reading reviews (you can never fully believe them), but they do state it will need reproofing at regular intervals.

Currently looking like the Leatt 5.0 might be the best overall for waterproofing, breathability and features especially the magnetic hood. How it holds up over time though, I dunno

My jacket is nothing special in the waterproof stakes but the zip ventilation is brilliant.

I would maybe suggest considering the Keela Saxon.. it's a little lighter though so might not be exactly what you want. Very waterproof though, grand with the right layers. Mine has been very durable.
Much cheaper, direct sale from the factory and readily repaired at that same factory in Glenrothes. Not made and shipped from the far east, employer pays living wages too. Recommended.

Brand new MT500 jacket here.
First ride... seemed waterproof, but rain did not bead at all. The outer surface wetted out really quickly.

But I paid just £99

Hood, cut, etc are all good.

Are we talking about the MT500 II Waterproof Jacket?:

https://www.endurasport.com/mt500-waterproof-jacket-ii-bottle-green/13952650.html

I have V1 of this and it is just about the best ever waterproof jacket I have owned. My criticism is the hood it really big and can't be pulled in much, great if you want it over your helmet but I ride with the hood under my helmet when it's really wet. The huge hood makes it awkward when wearing in town when raining, the hood it too big and drops over your eyes.

The new Decathlon Forclaz jacket is 25,000 waterproof and a third of the price
I have 2 of the older style jackets and have been amazing in some proper wet biblical downpours

Cheers for all the replies

Looks like ill be staying away from the MT500 then, at that price i would like to think that the jacket would last a few years (with DWR re treatment) before not being waterproof

I might just buy another Altura Nevis as its been good enough for the last 3 years, just wanted something a bit better this time round

Commuting for nearly 20 years now and the best waterproof gear I've had is the Altura Nightvision stuff. Trousers are 50 quid and the jacket was about a hundred. It's been pretty hardwearing. The Endura gear I had (stealth bibs for example) gave up within a couple of months of use.

jkomo I have , I think some of the taped seams are also coming away so might be a bit more involved.

@escrs I'd be looking at 7mesh kit, or a Dirtlej romper suit (or jackets and trousers)

I picked up some Nikwax from a store few weeks ago and they were saying even the Nikwax formulas have had to change to be more environmentally friendly, the issue is you now need to reproof more often then before!

I mentioned this one further up and think this is where my money is going. Way more than what I was willing to spend on a coat that WILL get ripped, but it looks tough and is 30k/23k. Zoom in on the material if the pic will let you. MIGHT pair with some Endura Spray pants though

My MT500 is decent when you don't know what the weather will throw at you (by that I mean a mixed bag). I don't re-proof it nearly enough but will shrug off a shower and the venting is fantastic. It won't withstand a deluge.

I do quite like it though.
