Anyone have a pair? Could be a good option for cold mornings and warmer afternoons.
Are they windproof and suitable for people with short legs, I don't want baggy ankles catching on my chain.
Anything better?

Humvee trousers are not very warm in winter. I doubt I would be zipping my legs off.

How about knee warmers or all day knee pads

With warm socks and warm knees your shins are unlikely to notice

Although in winter I tend to wear long unpadded tights under my baggies, I find that easier
