I'm struggling to get motivated 😁

Reasons against...
- Had a couple of shandies last night.
- 5yr old daughter didn't get the memo about clocks changing, so we were rudely awakened at 5.30am.
- it keeps pissing down.
- I've just made another pot of coffee.
- the cat is being affectionate.
- I'll have to wash the bike.

Reasons for...
+ It's Sunday
+ It's a bike ride.
+ Ummmm...

It's not compulsory. Sack it off today if you're not in the mood. There's more on the negative side of your balance. I'm also not riding today, maybe a short shake down ride of a new to me gravel bike, but that'll be probably a mile.

I'm working on it 😆
I just know I'll be a grumpy git all week if I don't get out.

Is this MTBing or road riding? If the former, be glad you have the choice (I have three small children and usually too much else filling up the weekend). If the latter, go MTBing instead, you won’t get run over and it’s actual fun.

I'm on dad duties today so can't ride.

Drink the coffee, it'll clear the post shandy haziness and then you'll be agitated just sitting around so will want to go riding.

You won't notice the rain after 5 minutes of being out.

The cat is merely using you for affection and doesn't really care for you much at all (if it's anything like mine...) so hanging around on it behalf is just playing right into its selfish little hands (paws).

The 5 year old can help hose the bike down when you get back and any bits missed can be scrubbed with the cat.

It's win-win. No reason not to

This is absolutely true. I've been doing just that for over 3 years now.

Autumn riding is great

The colours of the leaves only stick around for a short while, they fall to the ground and quickly turn to black mush, get out now while you can!

Wife and I came down with covid last weekend, fairly quick in passing, thank goodness for vaccinations!, and feeling pretty much ok today. I’d love to go out for a spin, but am restricting myself to dog walks for now as don’t want to overdo anything. I did get 15000 steps with the dog yesterday tho..

Was meant to be on a rare roadie club ride this morning, but instead I've done my 10,000 steps between the sofa and the toilet....

I’ve just been for a fell run in pissing rain and wind. I now feel great, although type 2 fun at the time. There’s something great about getting tired, cold and filthy in the autumn then coming home to the wood burner , armchair and cup of tea. Get out while it’s still light, go on!

Wife just read this to me while driving somewhere. Pretty much all applies to riding bikes as well.

I was out this morning then had to come home as the baby did something 111 worthy. All fine now but there that goes for a few days. Stupid parenting responsibilities…

The sun cane out, I dressed for some weather, and did 40km on the SS MTB.

Was good fun and actually almost dry in places (though really boggy in others)

Thumbs up for riding trousers, grippy 29+ tyres, and mudhuggers 😁

Thank god for that, I tore my left achilles tendon in half, with a 30 mm gap in February, that the orthopaedic surgeon declined to suture, and just as it was healing, and I had the go-ahead to start riding again,in August,I tripped up crossing a road, and tore the right achilles tendon.I will probably not be riding until after Christmas,so listenining to you shilly-shallying about a bit of weather has been Teeing me off completely.

I went out on my gravel bike with new wheels and old tyres. Got three punctures that wouldn't seal (prob not enough sealant) and had to put a tube to get home after 2 miles.

Went for a ZWIFT instead.

It's days like what you describe are best for:
- Sorting something out you've been putting off like sorting the garage.
- Spending time in the kitchen making something delicious that you never normally have the time for. Mmmm brisket time!
- Having a family day. Lego, films, arts & crafts, pumpkin carving

You only need an hour for a session in the gym, a swim or a session on the rollers/turbo.

We all need a day like this every now and then. My kids call them "a lazy day"

Best bike for me when feeling lethargic or just not really feeling it, is a rigid singlespeed mountain bike. You have no choice but put an effort in on the ups and downs.

Doesn't need washing either 👌

get out and ride now while you are fit and healthy, because one day you will be old and fubar and will not be able to ride.

simple.

I'd not worry about it personally.
Didn't feel in the mood for it today so just went for a walk instead.
Pub stop mid way and no mammoth clean up operation after.

Besides that I'd already done two midweek rides and 3000 meters of descending so it was nice to do something different for a change.

5yr old daughter

Grabbing a bit of "me time" is quite a good motivator for me! My children are (slightly) older now, and my disappearing for a couple of hours during the weekend has translated into an almost weekly trip to Hamsterley with my eldest (and enormously enjoyable at that), so there can be other bonuses down the line. And as others have said, the autumnal colours have been quote spectacular this year.

Actually, I feel a bit guilty about the rant. I went to see the physio yesterday afternoon, and she says the tendons are doing well, and a bike ride would be good therapy,YAY WIN !!

That'll be why - get some gears and you'll feel more inclined to go out.
