Hi, dropping my motor appears to be a little beyond my abilities and this appears to be a solution.

https://www.bike-eu.com/43138/extending-hydraulic-brake-hose-is-quick-and-easy-yes

I guess I would get the set of 6 hydraulic hose extensions and use the olives and hose specific to the hose at each end.

Anyone used this technique?

I am playing with the idea of using the shimano internal hose and placing Magura MT7 lever and calipers on.

TBH, if you're not comfortable undoing a few bolts and unplugging a few wires should you really be considering messing with hydraulic hoses?

Doomanic, how do I pivot down a Yamaha sync drive pro2? I can find guides to the older model with cables underneath, but not the newer pro2.

I've no idea what the longer brake hoses are meant to achieve, but if you want a longer hose just replace the hose, no reason to extend one

Confusing title- sorry. It's not about extending your hose, but leaving the Shimano run in around the motor and adding a different manufacturer - say magura on either end. You use the correct hose and barb for the manufacturer and this is a joint piece. Often tucked up behind the stay.

No-one used?

If you’re asking whether the Elvedes kit is any good or not, then yes it is, all their kit is top quality. I work for the UK importer, so you can call us with any questions if necessary.

Can you not poke the new hose through using the old one as a guide?  You could make it easier by cutting some m2.5 threaded bar and threading it into each end to join them while you pull/push it through?

From a recent delve into Magura vs Shimano, the ID of the hose differs. 2.1 vs 2.3mm.

Even Shimano BH90 and BH59 have different bores.

If I remember correctly, BH59 is 2.3mm (same as Magura), BH90 is 2.1mm.

Shimano did this for a reason. The Servowave levers work better with 2.1mm hose (according to shimano). I guess it means that the fluid is pushed 'harder' though the narrower bore giving more force at the piston for a given movement at the lever.

What I guess I'm saying is that while it saves you having to drop the motor to route a new hose and it'll mean your new calipers will physically fit, you might not be getting the best performance. Equally, It might work out just fine.

If you've already got BH59 hose and want Magura brakes then I can't see there being any difference between shimano and Magura hoses. I'm pretty sure they both tm OD (if, of course I've remembered correctly...)

Removing the motor can't be too bad a job. I'm guessing chainring and cranks off and then remove the motor bolts. Gently wiggle thr motor free and disconnect any wires that are holding it in place.

I take pictures of wires and stuff. Always helps when getting it back together.

Thats not how it works at all.  Both pressure and movement are the same.  Slightly greater friction with the narrower bore which will be irrelevant

As tj said, the hose diameter won't make any difference to the pressure at the caliper. Ignoring the tiny difference caused by the reservoir being higher than the caliper, the pressure will be identical at all points in the system. The hose is just there to transfer pressure from the master cylinder to the caliper, it doesn't flow large volumes of fluid like a garden hose. However, a smaller diameter hose and any fitting that impede flow may make it harder to bleed the system.

Good points...

Why the difference between the 2 shimano hoses then?

Smaller ID/ same OD = thicker wall = more stiffness in the hose?

0.1mm either side isn't exactly a huge difference!

Must be a reason for it, surely?

My guess is to make sure you buy shimano not generic hose.   Maybe also less expansion in the hose
