So the change in ownership seems to have resulted in a bike which isn't actually hideous.
Spare a thought for the poor Moment though;

looking at the seat mast on the first one - is it so tall you couldn't run a dropper?

Namescript doesn;t exactly ooze class, does it 🙁

What's the top one? Rocker looks a little short to be an Epiphany.

I think Ellsworths look great btw (said the Moment owner...).

It's not going to win any contests, granted but in the context of the name Ellsworth, it's hardly offensive. Unlike the bottom one, which is. Both will come complete with the surliest customer support known to man.
It's an epiphany, loddrik.

2003 rang. They'd like their saddles back.

2008 also left a message - they thought their 'a bike can have no straight, round tubes' ruling only applied to that year.

Not a complete minger of a bike, but not great-looking by any means, either.

Never been a fan of ostentatiously "curvy" frames though.

I see Ellsworth are refusing to give-in to the ridiculous new trends of dropper-posts and stems shorter than those found on most road bikes.

Wedging plus-size tyres into a 29er frame buy using narrow rims is clearly the future and worth chasing.

Think they might be missing a stem too. Possibly even a seatpost.

Wasn't that the whole point of them to start with?

What a mess. If you're bikes are quite gaudy/aesthetically challenged why when doing builds for promo pics would pick a load of components with loud and clashing logos? And those decals are like something a primary school kid would consider 'well wicked'.

Ellsworth: "Customers out there are scrambling for trail bikes with 462mm chainstays and a 70° head angle. Believe me, 29ers need those to go around corners."

"Of course our downhill bike should have 426mm chainstays and a 370mm BB height. How else are people going to get the rear wheel over slow speed obstacles?"

"No one needs more than 435mm of reach. Customers will put 100mm stems on. Trust me, this is where bike design is going"

I quite like the swoopy look of the top one, but the linkage does look a little frail. The lower one though, wow! That's a pretty ugly bike. It just looks out of proportion.

Just checked out their website, interestingly none of the build options mention a dropper post !

Maybe droppers have now gone out of fashion ?

Not a fan...the first bike was assembled with brand new suspension but with finishing kit that's languished at the back of someone's warehouse for a decade. That stem is all of 100mm long, then there's the seatpost and saddle. Seriously, who makes a boutique bike these days that doesn't feature a dropper post?

The logo is truly gopping, but that's an area where Ellsworth has never held back from the boundaries of taste in the past.

The second one is a see-saw with a hard-on.

Loved my Ellsworth, depite it being beaten with the ugly stick, after falling from the ugly tree, and landing in the ugly puddle. Until something on it broke. Trying to source a 150 X 135 20mm rear axle to fit the "custom" hub and "industry leading" rear drop out was an utter P.I.T.A.

But have they actually identified a section of the bike-buying public that wants the geometry FS bikes had 10 years ago combined with 650b and a too-large gothic font?

Cursive is the new Gothic. Seeing as how they're working backwards through the GTA logos it'll be double bold sans serifs next.

The issue isn't just the aesthetics, everything really, the rear linkage design, geometry from 10/15 years ago etc etc

I suspect there's a fair number/enough people who are happy with how their 10 year old bike rides and just want to replace it with something that uses 'modern' materials and suspension components and maybe one of those 'new fangled wheel sizes'.

Not everyone wants to plunge down mountains with a head angle that feels like they're pushing a wheelbarrow the axle's so far in front of them 😉

😆

yes I understand that 😀

By the same token I'd prefer not to get catapulted over the bar when applying the brake on anything other than an uphill slope or the flat 😉

Someone must like it ?
Tony himself ?

How much are they anyway? Still mega money?

Hmmm. Perhaps we need to re-asses our expectations of what geometry is 'needed' to ride the gnar. 😉

If they held on to the gothic font for a bit longer it would have come back into fashion. (tbh I liked it in a so wrong its right kind of way)

New font borrowed from 1985? Neighbours?

Mate had a Truth which broke a chainstay in Moab. Not the first by the lack of surprise when we took it to the bike shop. Still Warrantied with a new one while he was still out there. He then bought a moment which I rode for a while while he rode my 5Spot. We both preferred the 5Spot but that Moment certainly was still a decent bike when compared to similar bikes of the time.

Those latest ones tho. Ugh.

I did have an ISIS for a while... that was, er, interesting.

I had an epiphany...great bike...mate still rides one. The late great Mr Worland rated them..i think they are dated now and th ecompany seemed to stand still and lacked the R & D other companies put in.

i quite like that old Moment posted by woodster, i even looked into buying one.

(ended up with a Hemlock instead)

But wow, the new ones certainly are ... challenging. I've checked, and yes, they've used every RGBi combination that my screen here is capable of producing.

I've had a couple of Truths, really rated them a few years back - a great race bike. I still have an Epiphany which is about 6 years old now, still ride it sometimes, a great bike in its day. Don't like those new ones though!!!
