Hi,

I've recently bought an Elite TUO Turbo Trainer
https://www.elite-it.com/en/products/home-trainers/interactive-trainers/tuo

I think I've picked up a lemon as I can't for the life of me get the calibration to work in either the elite my trainer app or Zwift. My last 6 rides on Zwift have all had to be binned, as soon I started pedalling I was putting down 300w, which I can tell you is not the case.

Looking on the web I am not alone in my woes, but can't really see any advice or communication from elite about this issue.

There are lots of threads where it appears that the issue doesn't happen to all TUO owners which makes me wonder if it's just a batch of the trainers that are duds.

As cheapish Turbo Trainers are as rare as Hens Teeth at the moment, should I just wait and hope that a fix is found, keep trying to calibrate or ask freewheel for a refund?

Thanks.

Bloody hell, it's not "that" cheap mate though it kind of did look like it when I just googled. No offence!

If you can't get it working look out for a second hand Kickr Snap. They are pretty bullet proof. Some guys on here also get on ok with some of the cheaper tacx models that the likes of Halfords sell but I've no idea on availability. Their tech support/ CS is now handled by garmin too and anecdotally ive heard about pretty bad support from some. That said, if you can get one at a shop locally (always a good idea with trainers!) you can take it back for swap/ refund.

As I said though, keep an eye out for a Kickr Snap. There are 2 versions, the later one has LED lights on the casing and so is easy to distinguish. Later one has a few minor improvements, accuracy etc. though the earlier one should still be a solid buy.

Good luck! Turbo trainers have been a bit shonky over the last couple of years from most of the manufacturers unfortunately!

I have the elite zumo. Calibration works from Android phone but not the windows app, so of you have an alternative device then give it a try. Only ever used the upgrado app to Calibrate it, not 3rd party apps.

Elite customer service were pretty quick to reply, email them.

^^ Nice, will be cool if that solves the ops problem.👍

On my kickr core I can't update it's firmware from my Android phone but it will update it from my Android tablet. Bloody stupid.

Elite customer service are very responsive @kalamonkey. And if there's an issue they'll know about it. Have you emailed them?

I might be dim but I couldn't find an email address for support, I looked on the Elite website which directs you to a FAQ and the forums. On the forums I saw that quite a few people have the same issue and none of them have a response from Elite.

@kalamonkey

Did you try the other posters suggestion mate, regarding using an Android phone?

I've been iOS now for 8 years now, I'll borrow the wife's phone and give that a try tomorrow as well.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi,

just spent a frustrating 45 mins on both Android and iOS trying to get this to work.

The myETraining app on Android won’t connect to the trainer but the Upgrado app does and crucially it will allow me to specify an upgrade file, but I need the myETraining app to download the file!

The myETraining app on iOS connects fine and pulls back the serial number of the trainer which Android version doesn’t. However when I click on the firmware update icon it takes me to the Upgrado app saying a firmware update is available but the Upgrado app doesn’t give me the option to load the new firmware.

FFS, I work in IT and am technically minded and if I find this process unworkable I wonder if people who don’t will just give up.

From what I’ve read review wise it seems like for what it is (wheel on Trainer) it’s one of the better ones, but if it’s this difficult to get accurate readings/control out of it then I would say atm it’s a 1* product.

What I currently have is a rather heavy bike stand that is taking up room in the living room of the house, and a wife and small baby that want that space back!

I’ve emailed elite and will see what they say but I’m going to pack it way until I can be confident I can get the blasted thing to work.

I might actually have to venture outdoors tomorrow on my mtb.

I've never known anyone actually upgrade the firmware on an elite trainer.

If you are trying to connect repeatedly over bluetooth with different devices / different apps on the same device you'll often have connection issues.

I suggest you power everything off, wait half the afternoon, and then go again but keep the iphone out of the room/house, don't go near upgrado or zwift or any other app, and go for a calibration through myetraining app.

If my trainer is running the latest software then the myETraining app needs to stop sending me to the Upgrado app saying that an update is available.

I also thought about the interference and switched bluetooth off on both devices when not in use.

I warmed the trainer up for 10 mins and then started from a still wheel/flywheel each time.

Like I said If I'm struggling I would imagine most people would just give up. Again from what I've read this should be a really good trainer but atm it's not fit for purpose.

Just read my last comment again and realised that I may have come across as a bit of a Kevin (think Harry Enfield, that also shows my age!) and wanted to thank everyone for their help, it's annoying when I have a device that clearly works for people and is refusing to work for me!

Not at all mate, I for one get the frustration.

Hopefully elite will shed some light on the issue, fingers crossed.

It is annoying. To be honest once I had got what seemed like an accurate calibration* on my zumo I haven't done it since as I keep it in the house so temperature isn't too variable.

For any one interested in this, I received a response, which was to basically switch off my phone and then switch it on again before trying the calibration.
Which did work, after telling me it failed.

Out of desperation I attached a speed sensor and a cadence sensor to the bike.
Re-did the calibration, no failure and went on a Zwift ride and it's still off, I managed to hit 80kph and did 1000w which I'm not buying. On the flip side going up a 16% incline Zwift had me at 3kph and the speed sensor on the bike had me at 12kph.

Garmin Values
Zwift values

Moving the tyre closer to gel roller seems to have moved the indicated speed closer to the speed sensor. However this has chewed through the admittedly cheap tyres on the bike.

In time honoured fashion of throwing good money at problem I've bought a turbo trainer tyre and will be fitting that when it comes and seeing if that makes a difference.

The £80 saving I made buying the trainer has been eaten up by the sensors which I can move to another bike and the trainer tyre.

I'm hoping that this will be the last thing that I need to buy.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a trainer and like many of you TUO seems to me to be an excellent choice. In fact, it is now the only wheel-on available where I am living (the other is the FLUX S, I could afford it, but the storage would be a problem for me cause I don't have a specific cave to keep it).

But since I have been checking some opinions about TUO, I found many reports related to calibration. (even in the Suito, the most expensive brother of brand).

All the reports I read are negative. Although the reviews do not mention any calibration issues, comments on the Dcrainmaker review, for example, are fully focused on this issue as well.

Could you tell me if the problem was resolved? Do you know other owners who have not had this problem with TUO?

Thank you very much in advance for you help!
