I bought an Elite Direto in March and it’s been fine; using it for Zwift via MacBook or iPhone
Used it this evening for the first time in a few weeks and there’s no resistance 90% of the time, then all of a sudden the resistance kicks in massively. I can spin up a 10% gradient in top gear without breaking 150w, so something is clearly going wrong!
It’s the same whether I use the iPhone 11 or MacBook. I’ve tried using the Level mode in the myETraining app and get the same problem; no resistance as I increase the level up to 6, then massive resistance, then no resistance again after about 20secs
Google suggests the circuit board may be knackered, which is bit sh1t considering it’s only a few months old.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Ps- knew I should’ve bought a Kickr!
There is a Facebook group specifically for users of the Direto and troubleshooting their problems. I would get on there in the first instance. I wouldn't be too concerned if you bought it new as their 2 year warranty is spot on and they seem to just send you a new unit as soon as the old one breaks. Mine started playing up 23 months after I bought it and they sent me a new one within a week or so.
That’s good to hear, thanks! I admit I feared the worst when I got the cs reply in Italian and badly translated English
This happened to me basically able to ride any gradient in the big ring and lowest couple if cogs. I had to run the calibration via elites app a few times and then it went back to normal.
I’ve run the calibration via the app a few times but it’s still playing up.
I’ll leave it turned off overnight and try again tomorrow. I don’t think anything mechanical has broken, and it still makes the humming noise after being powered up which (I think) means the motor is cycling itself correctly.
I had a problem with my Elite Drivo in the middle of the Italian lockdown. Despite the fact that all the guys were working from home they did everything they could to get me sorted. 6 weeks later a new circuit board arrived in the post and sorted the problem for me (no led light displaying and no connection).
So basically , their customer service is top notch so just get in contact with them and they'll sort you out.
Kickrs have historically had their problems too with circuit boards getting fried from static charges. Wahoo also do great customer service though.
I had an issue with the free hub slipping during the middle of lockdown. After sending Elite a video they diagnosed it and sent new parts out quickly. Much better service than I’ve had from Tacx/Garmin.
Not related to the original issue etc, just a big thumbs up to Elite after sales etc, Snapped my direto belt on sunday after 2.5 years, emailed Elite a pic etc , new belt and pulley arrived yesterday in post !.. Great after sales service
Direto facebook page is where id head first, lots of advise and elite answer alot of queries on there direct
Yeah, Elite customer service is top notch of a little Italian in speed. Just get hold of them and they'll sort you out.
Alternatively take it back and get it swapped as its under warranty.
Elite cs have replied already, and seem keen to help. Impressed with them so far, fingers crossed they’ll find a solution.
Well the trainer has borked itself again.
It connects to Zwift and I can see power and cadence but there’s no resistance adjustment
- Adjusting the resistance with the app in level mode has no effect on resistance
- the motor does cycle when I plug it in
- leds light up correctly
- tried multiple devices (separately) inc iPhone, iPad, laptop
- tried via Bluetooth and ANT+ (using my Wahoo Elmnt Bolt)
Complete mystery- it’s like the trainer can output a data stream but not receive one from a device to alter resistance
Have asked on the Facebook page but no joy, and Elite cs seems quite slow
Does anyone have any thoughts? Besides ‘should have bought a Wahoo’, which I recognise.
Halford have offered a refund but not much in stock anywhere so that doesn’t really help. I’ve manually adjusted the resistance for now, so it can be used as a dumb trainer.
I'd stick with Elite CS - presumably they have the best access to a stream of replacement machines/parts
Meantime, keep looking for a replacement (with Halfords refund in mind - did they put any time limit on that?)
I wouldn't hang your hat on any other brand being faultless though
Did this happen around the time of a zwift update perchance?
When you're pairing it with zwift when you connect the 'controllable trainer' which connection are you choosing?
Ideally, when running it on ANT it should be "Elite FE-C" and then a 5 digit number.
Ditto for power and cadence.
Using the other connections can generate the issue you mentioned. Sometimes Zwift updates can reset your pairings, hence worth checking theyre correct.
Alternatively download the Elite my e training app and see if it adjusts the resistance, if it does you have a zwift issue, if it doesn't you have a hardware issue. Its not the greatest software but because its made in house by Elite you know its 100% compatible so if it doesn't work then you know there's something up with the trainer.
- I connect via Bluetooth, so only one pairing option. When I connected via ANT using the Wahoo Elemnt I selected the FEC option. No joy.
- have tried using the Elite app but no joy either. Have done the calibration step at least a dozen times and the 4 digit value matches that on the trainer (which I think refers to belt tension). Using the Leve mode on the app I can pedal in Level 16 at 30kph and 100rpm using only 100w, which is a tad unrealistic!
Sounds terminal to me.
I had a similar problem last year. I ended up adjusting the belt tension via the hole you insert the hex key. Backed it off a couple of turns and heard/ felt something "slip". Tightened it back up then did the calibration process via the Elite app and adjusted the tension to get the right calibration value and it's been fine ever since
