I've never raced a 24hr, but i've done quite a few 12hrs and do relatively well, but just reading up on Jason English for example and his race calender, he does atleast one 12hr and one 100km a month and a 24hour race every other month all year, and seems to win the solo and sometimes beats the teams. How does he manage to peak and recover in such short periods? or is his base fitness so good that each race just tops up the fitness tank?
A bit having the right body to do it, and a lot of having nothing else to do so he can ride a bike all day!
IMO: He has created a method that works for him. I'd guess he didn't start by racing month in month out, but built up to it over time, during this time he worked out the food, pacing, and mental and physical factors needed. Experience basically, knowing and listening to your body.
However I'd say his base level of fitness would be quite amazing.

Wouldn't work for everyone, I know a very accomplished 24 hour solo racer said to me that he didn't think you could practically do more than two or three 24s a year because it just ruins your body.
