Is there a STW preferred option?!

Komoot lets me plan on my mobile and is free but have to pay for some map bundles, £20 at moment for the whole world, one offf payment.

Ridewithgps, have to pay monthly for some features and cant plan routes on phone?

Not really had much of a play with RWGPS but its gets mentioned a lot, is it better than Komoot?

I've been having a fiddle with both since getting an Elemnt Bolt last week.

Komoot seems like excellent value as you can get their complete package for £20 at the moment. But, it seems to want to do the route for you. I don't know if you have tried it, but it doesn't seem set-up to do manual 'point - point - point - point' type route creation. Instead you put a start point & end point in & it creates a route for you. I gave up trying to put my own manual route in.

RWGPS seems to be simpler to get started with & the free option has enough for me to be getting on with for the foreseeable. I have tried to create a couple of routes using it over the last couple of days & it seemed simple enough. I have yet to save a route, sync it to the Bolt & actually try it out though. With RWGPS, you can search for existing routes too (I guess you can with Komoot?) so that might be an easy way to find new interesting routes.

If anyone knows how to create routes in Komoot by just click-click-click point creation I'd be interested to hear how.

i had a play with Komoot on my phone, once you set the end point for the route then you can long press on the map where you want to alter the route and it has an option to 'include in route' so you can make it go the way you want by adding points as necessary

I use cycle.travel for road rides, you can do the create route point by point or let it suggest routes..

Export to gpx, import via the Elemnt phone app

RWGPS works great on a desktop/laptop, and the free account has all the functionality that most people will need. It's unusable on a tablet or phone, though.

When I was testing out the Bolt last year, Komoot seemed to be the only app around (IME) which competently supported drawing a route on a phone and being able to actually route it where you wanted, but having tried again recently I just can't seem to do that. (Using iOS, and I can't remember whether last year I tried the iOS or Android version.)

andywnpt - does the output from that website give you a cue sheet for turns?

I normally use gpsies.com but the Wahoo website seems to imply that only Komoot or RWGPS gives you turn by turn instructions. I wonder if this is just because they have some kind of tie up with them?

Stumpy01 - there is an option to export to gpx route which marks turns also a tickbox to announce turns a definable distance before the turn but I've not used it, will give it a try later this week.
