I can lose ages on rides taking pics. I'm after a small, tough, light, wide-angle camera than mounts on a helmet and takes a snap every few minutes, so I can join them up into a stop-frame film after the ride while not being distracted by taking pics during the actual ride. An over-ride point and shoot button would be good, to take a few in a general direction and hope. Most of my pics are with a small range of settings in the outdoors so I expect it could be set up to get fairly good pics 90% of the time.

Is there anything like this available or could it be made from Maplin parts? I've looked at a few online but all seem to be DV, not auto-timed stills.

Go-Pro Helmet Hero can be set to take still pictures at regular intervals.

GoPro has an intervalometer built in. Not cheap though.

edit: too slow!

Thanks .. Go-pro is a bit ott price and size-wise for what I want though. Was hoping for something more torch-shaped and really simple.

Don't worry about the shape you can't see it when its on your helmet.

Standard definition GoPro (ie not GoPro HD) could probably be had second hand for not crazy money these days I'd imagine.

They are a wee bit heavy for mounting on an XC helmet though.

iirc, some of the cannon point and shoot cameras have been hacked by people using them for HAB (High Altitude Ballooning). This means you can program the camera to take interval pictures over a long time span etc. Google will probably turn up more info

I won't see it but I will clout it on branches etc if it's like a mini TV stuck on top of my lid ) don't really need a screen or the features etc either, the bluetooth link of the new Go Pro to a phone screen is a good idea to simplify the actual camera part.
