My guess will be someone has tried to extend the loop and dropped the cable down the wrong side of a wooden upright.

I would take a guess it's a foreign holiday destination.

don't use your tongue to find out which one is live! Actually both will be as it should be a ring main. Double jeopardy.

WTF was the person thinking? Where is it?

Can't be many foreign destinations with that type of plug/socket though 😉

seen all sorts of wiring. best was one guy that wired up Live/Neutral/Earth up as a mirror image of the other side of the room. Fine, until someone actually plugged something in, and then Blam! as the RCDs tripped 1 half of the building. Oh and the other one that had mains (neutral?) connected to the Ethernet coax shield on a server room.

In the apartment we had in Goa last week. I'm not surprised the leccy kept going off in the whole block & the hotel behind. Except they had a genny that kicked in & we had to wait!

Aren't they used when there's a powercut? One end plugs into the mains socket, and the other into a genny.

Not very clever..
