Hi, dead boring, just after some advice.

I want a partition wall removing, an RSJ putting in place etc.

In the top left corner of the wall which I want to have taken down is the leccy supply and consumer unit. The unit is old and I want a new one with RCDs.
The electric comes in from the outside wall directly to the meter next to the CU.

Now then, I want the wall removed and no nib on that side of the room (or minimal nib, structural engineer says I don't need one. with the current set up im looking at a metre wide nib to accommodate the electric bits and bobs.

I want the meter moving 90 degrees onto the adjacent wall (sage bit on pic) scottish power who own the meter will have to move it, definitely not need to add more supply cable as there is slack but maybe add a few more cms of meter cable. talking 10 cm tops.

Scottish power say this is around £762 for moving a piece of mdf and reorganising two boxes attached to it. 10 minute job surely?

The other thing that is annoying is that the government wants people to all have smart meters in their houses between now and 2020. for free....

yet I cant have one for now, no plans in my area.

any ideas please? anyone had similar issues?

It used to be that less than 100cm moved could be done by the supplier, and more than 100cm by the distributor. I don't know if that is still the case and if SP are acting as your supplier or distributor
If they're acting as supplier, ring around and find out if it's worth changing your supplier

A decent electrician "could" move it for you, whether he will or should are different issues...

This is why our gas meter is staying where it is rather than moving outside the house to the other side of the wall.

we had the same with our gas meter. they wanted £750 to swing it through 180 deg and put on outside wall instead on internal where it is now, as long as I fitted the box for them. It's hidden in the corner behind the kitchen units now. if it were a sensible price I would have paid it.

quite surprised that the supplier haven't jumped at the chance to get the meter outside for free/minimal cost. Whoever does the work, and it may be a joint op, it will need a full system inspection and possible bonding upgrades etc. Then a certificate can be issued by the electrician. I did loads of these and had a good relationship with the supply authority ie they let me cut the seals, remove the fuse, complete the work, then phone them to replace seal as and when.
Probably not what you wanted to hear, but since Part P etc the electrical trade has become heavily regulated.
