I think I may be having a midlife crisis. I’ve been idly browsing the web looking for a bike that’s suitable for riding with Funk Jr, commuting to work (between two and eight miles each way depending on where I’m working) and just generally covering not mountain bike duties. Ambling down canal towpaths and generally exploring / pootling.
Currently have one bike, my lovely Cotic Flare and want to keep that for its intended use. Anyway, for some reason out of all the bikes I’ve seen the Electra Super Moto cruiser thing keeps drawing me in. What the hell is wrong with me? I’m 42 in a few weeks, so maybe it’s a crisis after all. Part of my brain has already started saving for one even though I know it’ll be heavy, probably badly built and shit to ride with parts made out of lead and toffee.
Anybody else suffered from this strange attraction or care to persuade me to stop being insane? It is pretty cool looking though.
Sounds like a fine plan
I've got a Transition Klunker (similar, but only single speed), and it's a great fun bike. Perfect for family cruising duties and pulling a trailer on flat routes.
Not sure if commute anything over 4-5 miles on it. But with slicks it'd probably be fine.
I've used mine properly off-road too, which was interesting, if a bit scary! I did end up changing the coaster brake for a drum brake, which is a bit better.
I was looking at the Klunker when I saw the Moto. The problem is people seem to be selling them for more than they were new. I know Transition no longer make them, but £500 is taking the piss.
I was very lucky with mine, secondhand on eBay, but while they were still making them. £165!
I like that a lot!
