What's good in the world of elbow pads? I don't fall off very often, but I'd prefer not to break myself too badly if I do.

But I'd also like something not too Stormtroopery.

Oh, and can I have the moon on a stick please?

Thanks

Ones that fit and stay in place. Try them on otherwise they are a waste of time ones that fit some are useless on others, some are just plain useless though....

Really happy with my IXS flow’s. Not too bulky.

Unlike knees (where you definitely need pads), it’s very unusual / unlikely that you’ll have an off where it’s direct elbobiw joint contact to ground with any force - more likely you ‘superman’ out the front door and gravel rash up your forearm / elbow. With that in mind I’d recommend some of the enduro type elbow pads with a bit of forearm protection - fox launch pro enduro or similar. Light, comfortable and not to sweaty. Limited direct elbow to rock protection, but that’s not the crashes you typically have. I find ‘beefier’ elbow pads uncomfortable and restricting do you dont wears them when you need them

Troy Lee Speed. You don't need them until you don't wear them. Then'll you'll wish you did.

I'm a big fan of these; I broke my elbow so always wear pads on the MTB now.  These are pretty low profile and unobtrusive and stay in place.

I also broke an elbow (nobbly bit off the end) so guess it isn't that rare.  I have some Ion K-Pact pads that feel like they will do the job but are a bit much to wear all the time

Chipped both my elbows riding the mtb over the last 20ish years

It only takes one fall where you cant get your arm out in time and all your weight lands on your elbow or you smack your elbow into a rock

Chances are slim but it does happen

I run Dainese hybrid elbow guards, main thing to look for is good protection, good fitting, not going to slide down/move around whilst riding and they are comfortable

(nobbly bit off the end)

That's what I did too.

A few weeks ago on my first trip to Revs it was bitterly cold so I left my body armour jacket in the van in favour of warm layers. Obviously I did a huge two wheel drift to elbow grind on some frosty gravel. I'm still picking the grit out now.

Following this thread closely!

'Fox Launch Enduro' are mega comfy and low profile, can easy be worn under a base and mid layer.

Wouldn't want to have a reasonable  impact on them but imagine they would fend off scuffs, etc.

An elbow pad for dislikers of elbow pads would be a good way to sum them up.

Katie's looking for some new ones at the moment.  She's been wearing POC VPD's for a few years and has twice had a superman type crash that's scooped up gravel and possibly resulted in a worse injury than she'd have had without.

So, it's important that the forearm doesn't 'gape' when you bend your arm...

Fit is all important. If it leaves big gaps it will move and cause problems and if it leaves you feeling your arm is fixed in one position you won’t wear it.

POC VPD 2.0’s work brilliantly for me, but after some really bad choices I’d never buy without trying.

Tbh, I only wear elbows when I’m expecting to be out of my comfort zone anyway although there have been times I’ve regretted this policy.
