You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi,
Just wondering if someone could help, recently the non drive side is getting harder to clip in and also there seems to be a lot of play in the cleat area when clipped in on both.
Would a service kit resolve this, I have bought new cleats thinking it was that but they still do the same.
Thanks
Is this a foreign language or something?

😆
A (less than) subtle hint this has been posted in the wrong forum. No use talking about bike stuff in here. This is for failed politicians, IT geeks and keyboard warriors.
bin 'em, before they break mid-ride

If it's the left one it'll be ok, switch it off and switch it on again and you'll be fine. You can proabably do this by putting the bike on the desk and pressing [CTRL][ALT][DEL]
EDIT .. or typing init 6 if you're a singlespeeder
Just use a fork. You don't need an expensive gadget to beat eggs. 😉
Scrolling past the predictable posts, a couple of suggestions:-
If there is a lot of play when clipped in but when you try to move the cage left and ride with your hands it seems fine, your cleats are worn. Bin 'em and get some new ones fitted.
A service kit is needed when the pedal cage isn't spinning smoothly (the needle bearing has gone) or there is left to right play in the pedal (the bearings are worn). Service kit is easy to do yourself. Worth investing in a big chunky screwdriver to get the end caps off without trashing them.
I am now trying some new seals for the inner seal in the hope that they allow the inner bearings to last longer than with the normal CB ones. Just fitted the new seals last night so I'll need to run them for a while and see how they get on.

FTFY.
Option 1:
If there is a lot of play when clipped in but when you try to move the cage left and ride with your hands* it seems fine, your cleats are worn. Bin 'em and get some new ones fitted.
*I'm not sure what this bit means
But what about Option 2?
when you try to move the cage left and [s]ride[/s] right with your hands it seems [s]fine[/s] completely borked?
You can try to fix the 'wobbly wings' issue.
Either (a) Take the entire pedal: wings, spring body, to pieces following these instructions (which, incidentally, don't tell you how to put the thing back together again). And firmly bend the spring-ends 'over-square' to take up the play in the mechanism.
Or (b) get in touch with 2pure (Crank Brothers' UK distributor) info@2pure.co.uk (something like that?) and they will sort them out for you, although they charge about 8 quid for this full mechanism re-build service now, but you do get new springs.
Either way they should be sorted for a bit* if wing-waggle is your problem.
* will recur again in about 6 months' time. Terms and conditions apply. Egg beater ownership is a trial of love, that is tested periodically. (Egg beater user for 7 long love-and-occasionally-frustration-filled years).
Thanks for the comments, didn't see the other forum for some reason, which this post has now been moved into. (thanks Mods)
I have replaced the cleats with new ones and the problem still exists, so they have been sent off to 2Pure.
Thing is I really like the EB's, so would like to stay with them.
