has anyone been on one?
hello btw (first post) been riding a few years now, just moved onto my 3rd bike, Enduro Expert. its a serious bike and i think its about time i upped my game a bit!? i can confidently get down most black descents, just without much grace! i know i lack some fundamental skills, or they need work at least. namely bunny hopping, jumps, larger drop offs, flow, maintaining speed (i was overtook on the spooky wood descent recently!) basically all the stuff that will help me get the most out of my new bike!
so i thought about sneaking off and getting some help for a day or two, and being based in Bury, these courses up at Gisburn sound ideal.

Ed is a great guy, & yes you'll learn lots.
You'll come away with a lot of new skills.
And quite possibly beard & tattoo envy.
Do it. You won't be upset you did.
🙂
cool, cheers. just booked onto the 2 day 'flow' course in July! well, sent him an email anyway...
I did The Flow course last summer at Lee and Cragg quarry and it was a very good investment. Ed's a top bloke and was very good at getting the abilities within the group weighed off early and then pitched the instruction accordingly. I learnt far more than i expected or hoped to and many months on i'm still reaping the benefits. You definately won't regret it, enjoy.
Was the beard not distracting?
I attended last year with Stevede (ay up dude, still avoiding Bacup?).
Learnt alot from him and it's called Flow for a reason. What you learn on the day you will use everywhere you ride.
Jedi next for some airtime advice... 🙂
just watched a few of his videos on the youtube, was expecting seasick steve, but he is actually really well spoken!
I met Ed last November, during one of his joint endeavours with stw and quickly realised that he's more of a guru than a teacher when MTBing comes in play. That is, there's a holistic approach to his courses, not plain guidance.
A couple of months later, i invited him to travel again to Greece, for a skills week which was attended by 40 local riders. Now the woods are bustling with "flow-ers" and followers, so i rest my case.
Top notch skills training if you ask me!
You'll be riding down scary stuff in no time.

Ed is a top bloke, best 4 days riding I've done (2 on the flow last year, and 2 taking photos this year with Ed and Benji)
oh, and he has the most AMAZING beard 🙂
Jedi vs Ed anyone?
Thanks for the positive comments everyone.
My riding has improved no end since my Ed-o course
I'll more than likely be back for another at some point
I heard he makes love real well too 😉
He makes chips real well, ma.ybe you misheard? ;o)
Was the beard not distracting
yes I was utterly incapable of lip reading when I met him
I did one of his courses from 18 bikes and really enjoyed it, but i think it may have been more effective at a trail centre due to the corners and berms and jumps and stuff. Superb coach though, and a genuinely nice guy.
I booked my second time with Ed for a June course.
1st course was excellent. He cured my irrational and acute fear of steep rocky stuff that I didn't used to be afraid of, if you know what I mean.
jedi v ed??
Not met jedi or ed, but is there a conspiracy theory that says that ed is jedi with a fake beard?
Anyone seen them in the same room at once..a bit like janet and michael jackson?
Interesting theory cheez0. Also negates my musings of whether anyone has directly compared the two of them!
I enjoyed Ed's course held at a very cold, wet, windswept Gisburn at the start of last year. Thinking about speaking to him about getting something else arranged to push myself further (bigger jumps and drops etc) but if theres one thing I took away from my Flow/Black Magic course then its how to ride berms properly! Almost worth the two days freezing my nuts off for that!
jedi v ed??
Ed owns Jedi with Bombers 😀
If I was up North I'd go see Ed. Down South I went to see Jedi and am still getting the benefit from it over a year later - Ed seems to have the same level of infectious enthusiasm for what he does so that's got to be a good thing.
I did Ed's course with Nigel Page and rated it very highly. It's real stuff you can take to the trails and you'll use every time you get on the bike. What was really impressive for me was watching how much everyone moved on during the weekend; the improvement was obvious. I definitely felt improvement in my own riding, and that trend continued long after the course ended; in fact I've had a few people commenting on how much smoother I'm riding recently. I know I've got Ed coming out here for a week but that's my honest and unbiased opinion of his courses. I'd recommend them unreservedly, whether it's in Yorkshire or the Basque Country, or Greece or wherever 🙂
Just for balance, I had one of Jedi's pupils out here for a 2nd year running and noticed a big improvement in his riding too. Also I've been on the DirtSchool courses (a good few years ago) and they were good too, a bit more DH based but Chris is a v. good teacher and definitely sparked a change in my riding all those years ago.
i'd also recomend ed's courses unreservedly.ignoring the progress you will doubtless make, you will totally enjoy your day/s.
I've been on a weekend with Ed (and Nige Page) and also spent a day with Jedi...
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending either of them to someone wishing to improve their trail skills.
Comparisons? Well it's a little difficult to compare them directly, for a start my day with Jedi was all about me, whilst I was part of a larger group with Ed. The day with Jedi was also focused on drops/jumps, whereas the weekend with Ed covered a whole range of things.
However, if someone offered me another day with either Ed or Jedi, I'd probably choose Jedi.
As Im from UpNorf I will be opting for the Ed option very soon when my riding buddies can get there diaries synchronized.
Think its very unfair to compare who's the 'bestest', everybody is different from teacher to customer and will have their unique charm. And if Jedi or Ed or anyone else is perfect for you, they may very well be the worst style for someone else.
I'm just hoping that Ed's beard is the source of his power, wisdom and abilities, like some mystical wizard of the trails 🙂
He'll need all his mystical strength to straighten out my riding style 🙂
Looking forward to booking in super soon.
Im booked onto Eds flow courses in July, cant wait.
Never been on a skills course before.
imo - a few hours with Ed is the best upgrade you can ever buy.
having ridden and raced Road & MTB at a v-high level for over 30years I was curious as to what I could learn. I also was wanting to move out of my comfort zone and tackle some different styles of MTB. Ed showed me that I was missing some basic skills that would have greatly improved my racing, as well as showing me how easily I could tackle some more aggressive stuff.
If I could afford it, I'd ride with Ed once a month.
you never stop learning how to ride a bike.
your path in life is your own, and the choices you make are yours too.
my path is clearly marked out this morning with a oily trail of footprints around the workshop floor 😉
