The snows have taken their toll on the guttering on my house. Probably need a few iron sections replaced and some new brackets here and there.
Anyone got any good recommendations or experiences of a roofer or builder in the Edinburgh area?
Just had work done by MAMB in West Lothian - speak to Mike, he is pretty straight up and his roof guy is amazing. Took a chimney stack wall out for us and patched the roof - you would never have known there was a chimney there before. No guttering work was done though so best take his advice on if it's something they do or not. http://www.mamb.co.uk/
Also try http://www.edinburghonline.co.uk/info/10098/ RMC Roofing. Used to know the chap (Ronnie i think) and he seemed like a non nonsense type of guy. Always very cleanly presented which is/was rare for roof types.
Good luck.
Thanks TBC. Just had a guy come knocking on the door and gave a quote on the spot. THe price may or many not be OK, the wife however has a mistrust of anyone coming knocking for business. I say times are tough. Anyhoo, thanks again and I'll give those chaps a go.

Times are hard and that bloke was using his initiative to try to find work. Good luck to him.
I would suggest that any roofer not up to his eyeballs in work at the moment is either someone just started in business or not really a roofer at all!
Agree with Rick. We had a guy come to the door after we submitted our building warrant - they seem to go and see who is planning and then picking them out. This is fine and does show initiative but from experience of working in a trade style capacity in the past, the people out knocking doors are knocking doors for a good reason. The best workmen are never quiet enough.
There's a gang operating in Edinburgh who help old ladies who can't get their cars started etc, give them a lift home, point out paving/rendering work that needs doing, get cash up front for the work and disappear. A family friend was stung for £1500 in this manner!
According to the flyer they were from Fife, so had travelled far to drive past and offer to fix my guttering, and we are not really on a main road so it seems he was cruising for business (ahem). Plenty of guttering off around here. Couldn't find them on that there internet either. I would defo rather use a local well established firm with good testimonials. I'll get a few quotes - anyone used Buckstone Roofing?
Big firm - good reputation.
Avoid those who cruise around in the Range Rovers though...

Everyone has to start somewhere. Lets see if the OP can get one of these 'up to their eyeballs in work' roofers to come out and do a small guttering job.
