I run SRAM Force 11speed on my winter road bike. I also use it as a gravel bike in summer and a cross bike. Have couple of wheelsets both with a 10-42 cassette, running 46T single ring upfront.
I cant seem to find a reasonably cost effective route to upgrading one shifter and rear derailler. I see that AXS 12 speed shifters are now backwards compatible with 11 sp deraillers which might help; but I can't find an 11sp etap derrailer that covers 10-42.
Are there any tricks or hacks out there?
By the time you’re spending all the money to go axs doesn’t it make sense to hold on until you next need a new cassette and get a 12s one? (Assuming it fits wheels and so on).
Otherwise, di2 mtb rear mech should work with that cassette unless you’re dead set on wireless?
Genuinely curious about your thoughts/aims as I’m on a similar setup but with shimano mech and shifters and I find the ratio 12 speed conversion kit quite interesting as a future upgrade rather than going electric.
Not really any cheap way to go for AXS upgrade - but GX AXS is cheaper than XO1 or XX1 AXS.
Can't find the post here but someone had posted a thread about alternative wireless systems and apparently some were quite good...Berm Peaks did a video about 5 weeks ago where the guy installed a wireless system that allowed you to set the number of gears and 'stuff'. It seemed to work well and was much cheaper, but was bought direct from the Far East - but it seemed well made.
My aims were simply to replicate the type of shifting I have with Di2 on other bikes on the winter/ gravel bike. TBH the mechanical is decent, and I probably would't bother unless there was a semi-economical way to do it. Looking around it seemed that going 12 speed was the simplest thing to do but thats not on the cards for the winter bike at present. Perhaps in the future. Hadn't thought of other providers, will keep an eye out.
A Wolf tooth goatlink or clone would possibly sort out the bigger cassette issue on the rear.
I used to run a mix of di2 road shifters with the xt rear and the the mtb display for my commuter as I managed to get the shifters/disk hydro brakes cheap but the wiring cost mounted up.
