Anyone know if it's possible to hire an eBike for a month or two? I'd like to see if it works for us for commuter duties, without spending loads on a bike that might not see much use.

There seem to be a few shoddy-looking websites with outdated links, but can anyone vouch for a system that works?

Buy a bafang or tongsheng kit or the likes, a bolt on kit, assuming you have a commuter/beater bike anyway, it might not work out much more than hire costs of a bike, or you could flog it afterwards, then it's only cost you the depreciation?.

I’d give Really Useful Bikes nr Brizzle a call. If they don't do it they may know of somewhere.

Dunno where you live but in South Yorkshire the local councils used to run a scheme where you could have a free loan of an ebike. It was aimed at commuters so you could get one if you lived or worked in the council area. Trying to tempt people out of cars. I had one from Sheffield one year and one from barnsley the year after. May have been affected by COVID though.
In fact just checked the Sheffield cycleboost and it does say currently on hold.

If in London then Hackney council have started a cargo bike sharing scheme (NB I live nowhere near London but saw a post on this).
https://news.hackney.gov.uk/cargo-bike-sharing-to-launch-in-stoke-newington-london-fields-and-shoreditch/

Another option could be to ask on one of the cargo bike of family cycling UK Facebook groups and see whether anyone had a bike they could lend / hire you for a bit. There are some multiple large bike owners in there.

We have a kiddyback tandem which is another utility option for school runs family jaunts etc.

Yeah, I'm in Sheffield. Was aware of that scheme which seemed ideal but unfortunately no longer running.

I found a few places that do it in London, and a VERY shady looking website ( https://hurrecane.bike) that promise a lot and looks like it'd never deliver.
