This boardman

Or

Basso volta

Obviously the basso is going to be better as it has better components and carbon etc etc. but it’s twice the price of the boardman

Have a friend who needs an ebike due to health issues. Range is probably the biggest consideration. Does the basso do anything the boardman doesn’t, is the range that much more. Will the the riding exp of both be similar?

I have no idea about ebikes as you can tell so any guidance would be appreciated

I've got the former, the Boardman
i use it primarily as a commuter, i chose the Boardman due to the Fazua motor offering no resistance past cutoff, which is easy to pass on the road
ive put over 1000 miles on mine so far with no complaints, only negative i would say is the Boardman is pretty solid to ride, not sure how any other bike would ride as its effectively my first bike of this kind
i expect to get 50-60 miles out of it set up for me and my fitness

and yes, the latter has twice the battery capacity of the Boardman, so id expect that range to be realistic

The Basso is "keenly priced" at £5k with Apex, is it? 😀

I don't know much about the E bits, but I like my normal Boardman ADV 8.9.

Seen these though?

That vitus looks good. Do they all have a motor that doesn’t cause resistance over the 15mph limit?

Also, is a range extender available for the vitus (ie are they bike specific)

I don't think many of them cause resistance as such once past the assisted speed - more you simply feel the lack of assistance.

I've commented this before as I found myself swearing on an 8 mile road ride of hell when my Giant e-bike added loads of resistance past 15.5mph, when I wanted to sit at about 17 mph ish.

The next ride I took out my non eeb and found it like pedalling through treacle instantly - much the same feeling as the 'resistance' in my eeb a few days prior.

Even riding my relatively lightweight and historically quite rapid hardtail leaves me feeling like it is glued to the floor after riding the electric bike. Takes at least an hour of riding to become normal feeling. Most odd as it is more my body trying to propel the bike as fast as he electric one goes. Clearly never going to happen so it just feels stuck and heavy. When I adapt and learn to slow down, it is fine.

So, in a nutshell I'd say that most who say their ebikes are imposing drag are probably misguided.
Also, because of this feeling, I'd avoid any ebike that I intended to ride past the cut off speed often, as it will feel awful doing so.

There is that. although i find the transition to unassisted to be pretty invisible on my Boardman, on the lower power settings...
