Just a though, and a question as to effects on a sus fork, given a front wheel motor is effectively pulling the bike/rider along.
So thats the question. Do any of you think that swopping the front wheel for something like a Swytch kit conversion will can damage or premature wear to a suspension fork of 150mm(or any travel fork)
I suspect it won't do the fork much good in the medium to long term. On to of that it's going to add to the unsprung weight which isn't going to help the function of the fork either.

Compared with a 250 pound rider thumping their way down a rough descent, an e-bike conversion is nothing. It won't make any difference to fork wear and tear. It's probably comparable to hanging the bike by its front wheel.
The only thing wrong with that set up would be the nastyness of using a front wheel conversion kit.
Horrid things.avoid the issue all together by getting a mid drive or at least a rear drive ....but front drive is just awful.
Swytch a triumph of marketing and packaging of old technology.
Weight of comments lol, suggests no. Thought as much really, but hoped it was a method of saving a fair amount of funds in order to get the idea if an ebike is the way to go before committing to an ebike (mid drive) proper.
I might still buy a conversion kit, but I reckon I'd also be better building a rigid bike around it as well.
Ta for the replies.
I've got a bafang mid drive kit in the garage I haven't got round to selling if you're interested.
Thanks for the offer, but im not in the market just yet, and even then I might just opt for a complete Ebike.
Still have to decide on finances as yet and hoping pricing will come down in the next year or some. It was just really a simple kit to try it out, and the swytch seemed a fairly cheap price.
I'm actually hoping the prices wil be such I can get a reasonably specced ebike for about £3-3 1/2K, and have enough left over for a £2K bandsaw 😳
Swytch kits appear to be chinese kits with fancy marketing. All that weight on the front must be horrible and they aren't cheap.
I've got a tsdz2 kit with an em3ev battery.
Works absolutely fine on a commuter. 1300miles so far. I've changed a bearing but it wasn't difficult nor expensive.
Mounting the battery solidly is the hardest part. It's a lot of mass to keep from moving around.
I think youd rattle it to death and kill the frame on any sort of interesting off road

What battery you got ?
I'm using a 52v jumbo shark in my Kona sutra....so I drilled and fitted two more.riv nuts .
Not had any worry about that battery moving.
Previous to that I had a full triangle pack from em3ev. It made the motor go like stink but the candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long and I got about 2years /1500miles out of it. The new ones on 700 miles since 2018 - didn't get used for about 14 months while Jnr was fresh.
Thanks Tim 8)
Can I ask you whats the weight in that, It looks a fairly hefty chunk of steel.
If I take an option of such a conversion, i'd be interested in knowing to judge for an overall weight/build.
I'll check out some YT vids on that one, see how the land lies so to speak.
Swytch are out of stock(like everyone) but they've put an offer in if you add to their mailing list its apparently 50% off. Whether that actually happens or what the total figure adjusted is is anyones guess, but maybe worth it if it does happen.
This is my story of fitting and ebike kit. the tongsheng is lighter and more sophisticated than the bafeng. Main disadvantages are it needs a frame that is narrow round the bb / chainstay area so a wide tyred short wheelbased mtb can be tricky but there are ways around it and I had to make up my own antirotation anchor. Over 1000 miles now on the unit and its great

Trail_rat. Thin alu frame so didn't really fancy riv nuts...but probably would have been fine.
I've since used some loctite and better bolts - but to be fair it never actually moved more than a few mm.
I'm looking at an ebike conversion kit for my Ribble CGR to get me through the summer due to some health issues that will hopefully be sorted by the autumn, but at the moment I'm not up to riding anything remotely strenuous. Any suggestions on what to go for? I noticed the new batch of Swytch are coming out on pre-order Tuesday but they look expensive for something I will want to move on in a few months and the lead times are still vague.
I've seen a company called Woosh (on the boards of the lesser bike forums), which appear to have a good reputation for selling conversion kits. Maybe see what they're offering.
Thanks for the heads up on Whoosh. Looks like my bolt through axle is a show stopper on that option 😞
