Hi all,
Sorry if this is a silly question but I need to either run away or put my mind at ease.
I'm currently selling a bike on Ebay (not a stealth ad) which I'm only prepared to post to the UK. I've received an offer from a guy in america who messaged me to say that he would like it sent to a UK address and he'll forward it on to the US. My spidy senses are tingling but I can't work out why...
He only has 6 bits of feedback but all positive, he has asked questions about the bike, my height, photos of scuffs etc. All comms are through Ebay messages.
Any thoughts on this?
Cheers!
Could well be legit but I wouldn't risk it.
You are not covered by Ebay/Paypal seller protection unless it's sent to the registered address on checkout. I'm sure he can sort that out somehow if he really wants it.
then he should get whoever lives at said UK address to bid for it!! As above if you send it to a different address you wouldn't be covered so you'd be mad to consider it IMO.I’ve received an offer from a guy in america who messaged me to say that he would like it sent to a UK address
I've sent loads of stuff to freight forwarding companies when selling surplus kit at work.
I presume you would be covered by ebay/paypal as much as you ever are as long as you send it to whatever address ebay tells you to ship it to.
I didn't even know it was a freight forwarding place untill I noticed the same address several weeks in a row and on a few parcels so drove it over (it wasnt far) to see if it was one of our competitors!
Yeah, get whoever's at the UK address to buy it through their account so you can send it to their registered ebay address.
I live abroad and often buy stuff on eBay and get it sent to my parents in Scotland for me to collect when I visit etc to save on postage costs. To do this I just select their address from my paypal address book when checking out and never had an issue. Can he not add the address he wants it delivered to when he checks out rather than asking via message? Personally if he is messaging you to do it and only 6 feedback I would not be taking the risk.
Nice one thanks for the tips and information, I feel a bit less stupid now! I'll get back in contact with him about getting the PayPal address changed, that should flush him out if it is a scam. Cheers all
Is there still not any cover for you even if the messaging has all gone through ebay ?
(just asking as I've no idea)
Nope, I asked eBay this last year as someone wanted me to send a jacket they had won to a different address (uni halls instead of home address).eBay confirmed I wouldn't be covered so I had to cancel the winning bid, relist it as BIN and he then won it but changed his address in PayPal to show his uni address. Was only aware of this as my sister lost a brand new phone a couple of years ago, I think ebay/PayPal advertise the factor more now

This is all I do when I'm having stuff sent to my inlaws in the US - their address is in my Paypal account, I select it as the delivery address and never have any issues. It will protect you too, as it's gone to the address on the paypal account.
The address also needs to have the word "Confirmed" above it.
