Is there a really obvious reason why a seller would insist on payment for an item being made by Paypal even if you were collecting the item in person and wanted to pay cash?
The only thing I could think of is they'd like the funds in their Paypal account to make a purchase of their own but surely they could just transfer the same amount from their bank account in to Paypal.
The money involved is less than £100.
normally i would prefer to be paid in cash if someone was collecting an item from me. that way it saves me from incuring the paypal fees that are quite high.
have they gave you a reason why they are so insistent?
seems a bit strange.
Maybe they are afraid that a buyer might turn up with 4 big mates and just take whatever has been won on the auction? then they've lost their item and have no money either.
I think it is purely for security/peace of mind purposes.
And often because 'the wife' won't see money being paid into/out of a paypal account...
This is how one mate in particular seems to hide his (substantial 😯 ) purchases...
Business or private seller?
Private seller should accept payment however you offer it.
I sold a frame on here, when the buyer came to collect he hadn't had chance to get to a cash machine.
So he paid by Paypal from his phone. I checked on my PC it had gone through and he took the frame away.
I will never link a bank account to my paypal account, so if I need money in it to pay for stuff, I like people to pay me by paypal. in fact, i could do with selling some stuff to get my balance up again!!
don't care, now sell me one of your specials!!!
luv

As a seller I won't let a buyer pay via Paypal if they want to collect as the seller loses their Paypal protection as there is no proof of delivery.
As a buyer its safer to pay with paypal should you end up in dispute even with a collection. If you don't you must scrutinize the goods before parting with cash.
I suppose some people are just overly cautious when it comes to strangers and money exchanging. there's nothing wrong with being extra careful but I personally wouldn't let anyone pay for goods over paypal if it wasn't necessary, such as in this case.
I'd assume they want the money up front to guard against people turning up in person and then trying to barter down the price once they've had a good look at the item.
