I know there was a bit of a price spike through Covid, but even so, this asking price is a bit, well, punchy...

I've got twenty cheap and cheerful panel heaters listed at £1k each. Maybe worth a fiver.
There was a selling fees offer yesterday, just made lots of duplicate listing to get them on, will go round and update them for more useful stuff at my leisure, and when I have pictures
Maybe he's done that?

Maybe the word retro is worth £900.

Or they're away. Last time I went away for a while I couldn't find the 'holiday' mode that some sellers manage to use. Very easy to revise the price for a few weeks to stop people buying (and last year I had someone buy something just as I went away for 2 1/2 weeks. I explained what had happened, told them when I'd ship, then after 2 weeks they kicked off and raised a complaint about non-delivery anyway)

I'd be quite surprised if that bike in the OP really was 34 years old ... didn't think threadless headsets appeared on normal mountain bikes until the late to mid 90s. And those Jett forks were early 2000s weren't they?

Could be upgrades but it looks OEM-ish. If you'd fitted them forks yourself you'd surely have trimmed the steerer down a bit more.

edit- in fact i've found a picture of that trek 4500 and that is the OEM spec.

I think it's an '00 or '02 model

It will be one day - Maybe they've got their listing in early - given the rate of inflation currently, by  2036 when the bike is 34 years old we'll all be carrying our money around in wheelbarrows and £999 will buy you a loaf of bread, or that bike.

Its only available to business sellers so putting a silly high price is probably the best option

If anyone follows Little Rippers recycled on Facebook, there are some very optimistic price points, 15 year old Orange 5's priced above £1500 and so on.

I am looking for a cheap road bike for the trainer - everything looks very expensive (and not selling)

A single picture with a 5 word description, I'm guessing the decimal point is in the wrong place .

I don't think Trek even made MTBs in 1988 did they?

Not just ebay...
https://www.dolan-bikes.com/shimano-di2-btdn3001-battery-3port/

(they'll do shifters mechs and a battery for £48k. I assume they would throw in the cables).

EDIT £480k. Zeros swimming in front of my eyes.

I don't think that's right, I used it over Christmas and I'm not a business seller.

It’s possible to sell high price items on eBay and avoid all fees but you have to have a gentlemans agreement with the buyer.

In the past I’ve ‘sold’ a £1500 frame, then relished it for £3000 with comically bad pics, no takers thankfully 😁

then relished it for £3000

The buyer would have been in a right pickle.
