This rather nice titanium Brompton, from a seller with zero feedback, is suspiciously similar to one I listed last month. So similar in fact, he must have broken into my living room to take the photos.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brompton-M2L-X-titanium-folding-bike-/181630441108?

It's all a bit weird as the winning bidder was some chancer from Korea who I didn't end up posting the bike to. I started a thread about that here:

http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/possible-to-get-negative-feedback-on-ebay-removed

Anyway, I've reported the listing but if anyone would like to bid the cheeky b@st@rd up, ask silly questions or such like I'd be most grateful.

I've opened the bidding with:

Does it come in any different colours?

I've just put this..

Hi, have you any photos of the bike 'unfolded' please? My son lives in London & is looking for a foldy bike but I'd like to show him pictures of it 'up' if you know what I mean. He lives in Sydenham if that any help.

Ta, Frank.

Is it coincidence that his/hers user name is very close to 'fraud':

frauk_dfav18v

Could we have a photo of the scratches on the bell?

The mainframe is steel, it's just the forks and rear triangle that are ti on Bromptons.

Anyway, thanks everyone! Hopefully Fraud UK (you're right Eskay, at least he's giving people a subtle warning 😀 ) will bite before the auction gets pulled.

I didn't know that, but it seems neither does the seller- the frame material is listed as titanium!

Finbar, are you selling the actual bike on gumtree or do we have another scammer?

Scary isn't it

I'm sure at least 2 of the bidders will be using scam accounts. They have very low ebay scores

scary that a scam has attracted 40 bids

Finbar, are you selling the actual bike on gumtree or do we have another scammer?

Oh, ffs. The bike is long gone, and I've never ever used Gumtree 🙄 . Thanks though - I'll see if I can report it on there too.

I wonder if this happens to everyone who tries to sell a Brompton on eBay?

How does that work? With gumtree you rock up, hand over the cash and take the goods. There's even a mobile number there to ring.

Think I'll send the eBay bloke a queation, 'Are you willing to split the bike, if so how much for the bell' 😆

A few years ago someone was selling an MTB that looked rather familiar, then I realised that the pictures were of my MTB from when I'd bought it a few years before!
I thought it might be a scammer, so I asked a few questions and deduced that the seller was genuine and the pictures were from the 'library', which are available if you don't have your own?

Maybe I'm a bit naive but is it a scam? Certainly I have used other peoples pictures on ebay before when selling an identical item when I have not had the opportunity to take my own.
I wouldn't be paying with paypal though, it would be cash on collection.

I think it's right to report to eBay if you have concerns but calling them out as a fraudster and inviting people to have fun on here is a bit strong. Images of your bike can be found via google and it isn't uncommon to 'borrow' images for a listing - done it myself (but only stock ones).

BTW shipping via a UK forwarder is legit and doesn't make you 'some chancer from Korea'.

flame away 😀

" I can provide a Fizik Nisene (red/black) or a DMR kevlar saddle (black/grey) that looks good on it, let me know which you would prefer (see last photo below). "

Which last photo ? There's not a pic of either of the alternative saddles.

The only rational (legit) explanation I can think of for reusing those pictures is that the buyer (or subsequent buyer) of the OP's bike is now selling it and rather than retake pics again, is just using the originals.

He's also copied the entire description as well as the images, apart from the bit saying collection is ok

Valid points. I think this has just been covered above, but it is deffo 100% a scam. This was a custom build from Brompton, so the chances of someone having an identical one to sell are pretty unlikely. And I'd specified in my original eBay listing it was a UK only sale, so the guy from Korea was out of order. He was also unable to speak English, which made checking if he was genuine rather challenging...

The chap who bought it is the one who alerted me to its reappearance on eBay, so that explanation is out! Weirdly the only change the fraudster did make to the listing is to remove the photo of the alternative saddles I listed...

Anyway, it's still on there and has been bid up to £920 now. I really hope eBay take it down soon, or someone is going to get royally shafted 😐

If it concerns you then start a new listing for your Brompton

Give all the details of when you bought and sold it , and the fact that this guy has recieved dozens of questions and afaik hasn't answered any.

If i really wanted a Brompton and was looking on Ebay I would probably look at other listings for the same to get an idea of the selling price , and if i miss out on this one , is another one coming along in the next day or so ( longest sentance ever) .
Or leave it up to Ebay to not pull it . . . . . . . .

Cant really think of much else you can do tbh
