Off on our hols tomorrow to sunny Benderloch near Oban. Any family friendly routes nearby?
Was thinking about a circuit of Loch Ossian, train from Orchy costs £24 for all of us, so can I drive up to the B+B at the other end of the Loch?

Benderloch local here, go ride some of my trails! 😀

I moved to Edinburgh a few years ago so am a little out of touch now.

Sutherland's grove in Barcaldine would be a handy place for family friendly routes, mostly fireroad but it takes you up to a nice reservoir and there's several places where you are alongside the river. There's also some nice bits of singletrack hidden away although you'd be best contacting North Argyll Cycle Club for the locations.

Beinn Lora (the hill in Benderloch) is riddled with steep wee downhill trails, mostly rideable on a normal bike if you stick the saddle down, and built/ridden by bona fide WC riders as well 8)

Re: train to Corrour, might be worth booking the train to Ft William, the price drops significantly, and you can hop off whereever you like. Try Glasgow-Ft William for (probably) the cheapest ticket.

Doing the circuit around the Port Appin peninsula would be a popular choice, there's a pretty cool natural rock arch and some caves right beside the (flat and easy) landrover track, with lots of great coastal views and wildlife. If you keep your eyes open you'll spot the path that takes you up onto the plateau on top of the peninsula, some great singletrack up there but maybe best to walk that wee bit if you're with the family, bit steep in places.

... also there's nice circuits around Kerrera and Lismore with the added adventure of a ferry ride there and back. I'm not so hot with the details of the routes so you might want to research them yourself.

Where you staying in the village?

With Andy Phillips's mum, Sheila, she's letting her spot out as a holiday let.

Do you know Andy?

No point me telling you the local spots if you do, its him and Ben Cathro that are doing all the building up there now!
