Looking for a easy rolling 2.4 tyre, for mixed riding. Lakes, dales, canals and lanes.
Nearly bought a set of the 2.35 schwalbe G one things but read they are a bit flimsy.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
My new bike has a maxxis rekon 2.4 WT on the back. Rolls pretty well. Not sure I’d put one on the front aside from dry summer use though.
schwalbe Wicked Will would be perfect - 29 x 2.4
I have 29 x 2.4 WTB Ranger tyres on my hard tail. They came fitted to the bike from new and have been good. Whack the pressure up for road and gravel and drop it for trails and xc.
Not very good for muddy conditions but a good all-rounder otherwise. I’ve ridden the SDW, Cwmcarn, The Gap, lots of canal tow paths and plenty of xc and road miles on them.
Conti cross king.
Maxxis Ardent? On sale - https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/maxxis-ardent-mountain-bike-tyre-exo-tr-5360102831?color=black&wheelSizeWidth=29%22+%7C+2.4%22
I found the Wolfpack tyres didn't hold up to Lakes rocks, but it depends where you plan to ride Ton.
nothing high or knarly Andy.
just the bigger lower BW's.
got a 300 mile route i am doing with some drinking buddies, Huddersfield, Dales, North Pennines and Lakes.
and i only have some 29 x 2.35 big apples. bit too smooth those.
Another vote for Wicked Wills - they are bizarrely fast rolling and grip pretty well on most surfaces
@ton - I've used Ardent for Dale's Divide, NYM300, and Jennride recently without any dramas.
Don't go enduro racing on them though 😀
Rekon sounds ideal. I run a 2.8F and 2.6F and they're brilliant for the intended use and very light yet strong. 1500g for the pair in 27.5
Racing Ralphs for me. Roll really well, light, plenty durable enough for general riding, can handle wet as long as it's not proper mud. Mine get bashed all over South Wales which is rocky, but most of the rocks are rounded. They aren't armoured for sharp stuff.
I'm currently running a maxxis minion ss rear tyre.

It is fast rolling, handles off road pretty well but struggles in mud. It's been very puncture resistant. Only 2.3 but if you have wide rims it won't be far off. Roughly 815g
Done lots of spring, summer and autumn bike packing on it. Really impressed with it.
I've found the front tyre doesn't really matter as much. If running rigid, I go for a bigger tyre for a bit of suspension. Currently a 2.6 x 29er schwalbe nobby nic but sometimes change it to a maxxis high roller 2.3 inch tyre. Slightly more grip than the ss but still good rolling resistance and puncture protection and only 890g

I also highly rate the schwalbe rock razor as a rear tyre
I’ve heard good things about Vittoria Mezcals
Available in 2.35
Rekon 2.4WT (actually comes up more like a standard 2.35) and Specialized Ground Control Grid T7 2.35 are two gooduns
Maxxis 2.4 aspens, great tyre.
