Changing bars on HT from some old and battered carbon Haven's and have found a decent deal on alloy ones, exactly same dimensions.

Like for like, am I going to feel a downgrade when using ?

I have carbon on one FS, alloy on the other. I feel absolutely no difference.

Nobeer - that's what I'm expecting ! The old carbon ones have had 4 yrs of hard use, including 'that crash' so I reckon it's time they were replaced, a fair few chips and scores on them...

I think there is a massive difference.

I always run Easton bars. EA70, then Haven. For many years. Then when CRC had a sale on the carbon Havens, I got them and the difference, I feel is night and day. The carbon ones are far stiffer and the front end feels a lot harsher than it did. I am seriously thinking of switching back to either Havens again or I might try a set of Renthal Fat Bar Lights.

I had a s works carbon bar. Went to a 3T aluminium alloy bar,it feels considerably stiffer in a good way by making bike feel more responsive

But a different product so not like-for-like...

I think on a rigid bike, on a looong day, you may notice it. Luckily I don't have a rigid bike.

I have carbon on my fs & alloy on my hardtail. I don't notice a difference swapping between the two.

Agree. Although I don't do long days I only have a rigid bike and last year was using with 1.9 tyres pumped up pretty hard with carbon and alu bars and I couldn't tell any difference (the + was that carbon bar was lighter)

If you can tell the difference with suspension forks and a lowish pressure front tyre I would say it is because you want to feel a difference.

When I switched to carbon I lost a lot of pins & needles and numbness in my fingers/wrists on longer rides. They also look sweet and are lighter.
Win/win/win

My carbon Havens seem as stiff as the alloy FSA I replaced. The On One Knuckleballs in a chewy favour on the other hand feel a lot more compliant.
