So where is everyone heading ?
I'm having a Dad & Lad day on Monday at either Mabie or Kirroughtree ..
Mabie currently winning as it's closer and it's a long way to go to Kirroughtree if its only the red route that is open ..
Won't tag this on this time as it's closer to Dalbeattie ..but has anyone out there done Screel Hill ?...If so how technical is the descent ?
Probably going local either this evening or tomorrow as a warm up to the weekend proper ..
Where are you off to then ?
Eskdale, Miterdale and Wasdale. Make the route up as I go.
No holidays but still hoping for Dalbeattie and Drumlanrig (renew the season pass) over the weekend with the girlfriend and mates.
Tomorrow whinlatter. Combo of double reds and blues with lunch in between. Build bed for the van Saturday. Sunday going long to the monthly shop ride at Dales Bike Centre in the Yorkshire dales. All with my best mate who lives in Darlington.
Checking the weather for a night ride Saturday or Sunday, localish not sure yet, my mate's coming out so should be good. Might beg for an afternoon local on Monday as well if I'm good boy. 😃🚲😍
Got my own weekend off to a cracking start with a shortened version of the Lonesome Pine Trail at Kielder .

At this point the trail splits with the option of a 44km cross border trip to the 7 Stanes trails at Newcastleton returning to this point by turning to the left ..turning right drops you back down on superb singletrack to Kielder village .
I initially turned left to follow the boardwalk to the start of the singletrack on the Bloodybush section

All of the descents were running sweet ..but Oliver's Oscar was the highlight ..its almost primeval in here ..a special mention to Russell Stephenson ( forest ranger ) & Ian Bell ( Bike Place Kielder ) who spent a lot of time re-vamping this trail last year ..its fantastic .

One very happy chappy at the end ..with Mabie to come probably on Sunday now as the weather for the bank holiday is looking pretty grim ..
Wow looks great at Kielder very GRIM DOWN SOUTH rain on top of rain suppose to be ok on Sunday and the rest of the week rain with more rain nice pics not ridden in conditions like that in Gloucestershire since mid October.
Back to normal today though ..its persisted down all day ..
Quick laps of the woods this morning.
Tomorrow looks a total washout so tinkering time - new stem and fender to fit, maybe finally finish the bamboo road bike.
Sunday OK so something local but longer hopefully.
Monday's forecast is horrendous but trip to Chicksands not called off yet.
You do take some cracking " alternative " pics colournoise..
It isn't looking too pleasant weather wise ..hope tomorrow stays as forecast and is just cloudy otherwise trying to prise a 15 year old from his mattress early doors won't meet with too much success....
You do take some cracking ” alternative ” pics colournoise.
Cheers. Always cool to know someone's watching.
Not quite the Easter weekend but went over Nan Bield on Thursday.

Freeminers trail at the forest of Dean was rather wet and squishy Tuesday more so Wednesday and good Friday.
Early morning Good Friday .. todays plans involved not a lot as blowing a hoonie and peeing down

Local trails met a trail builder called Brian who showed us some stuff i've never ridden before, which included some super sketchy boardwalk sections over a ten foot drop over a river and down the embankment into the loch. even the climb out was sketchy as..
Way more exciting than this generic dull woodsy picture

Riding with my son at Mabie and Kirroughtree so far - trails almost deserted, conditions mostly dry and firm and in great shape! Was expecting to be wading through bikes, but it's been fantastic to have the trails more or less to ourselves. Woohoo!
Only the black is still shut at Kirroughtree, but this was OK as we had plenty of fun on the red and blue singletracks, so didn't feel like we missed out.
This is the new sweeping section under the bridge at Kirroughtree. We both loved this bit of the forest and the picture came out brilliantly, especially for a phone!

Loving hodgynds kielder photos . Lonvg time since I rode there. The horror (kielder 100).
I’ve got tired legs from a quick slow trot at Swinley. Family day tomorrow on the south bank. Picasso instead of pootling.
Thought we'd try an XC ride today. Knew it would be wet and muddy as most of our XC rides are, but today was unreal! Got 3/4 of the way and turned back after people's mechs were getting broken. My £250 parkwood 29er excels in this glop!

All hail the amazing self standing bike!
Rode round Area 51, it was moist but not muddy. The damp loam actually had more grip as the tyres sunk in a bit, but to counterbalance that, the roots were slippery. Bloody brilliant that place. When the rest of the country is wetter than an Otters Pocket you can guarantee a good ride there.
Mudfest down here, I've not left the house.

Still great though.
Senor J ..thanks for the comments ..
Depending on which 100 you attended you might well have passed me as I marshalled the last two from where the boardwalk split on the pic above on the outward leg ..switching over to Into The Valley on the Deadwater Trail for the return.
You would definitely have passed me had I been taking part 😁
Lowey - looks great - much rain in the Lakes today? Drizzling all day in the Dales but looks like you might have fared better.
@ hodgynd, our paths have crossed then. I did the last two! 🙂
Where you been lowey? Stone circle looks interesting
Martin.. got lucky. Not a drip today. The tempest blew it all away.
Sefton... they are on the moor between Eskdale and Miterdale. There ate about 4 or 5.... really odd place to find them.
I've done two day of road racing. Rain, snow, mud, freezing temperatures and pot holes. Here's a photo of us enjoying it.

Sefton… they are on the moor between Eskdale and Miterdale. There ate about 4 or 5…. really odd place to find them.
If they're the ones up the hill from Boot, they're the Brat's Hill / Burnmoor / White Moss / Low Longrigg circles. Interesting Bronze Age stuff (mainly burial cairns) all over the moor up there. Not that well known compared to the 'big name' Lakes circles like Castelrigg, Swinside and the Cockpit.
Lowey- just been looking through your pictures.
You really put the MOUNTAIN into mountain biking mate!
Great stuff! 👍

Lowey, Postierich. Pair of bastards. I put up a fence. Whoopdidoo.
Had a cracking ride tonight

fast paths and rural roads, everywhere in the woods is all slop. I was out last night, tonight and chances are high for a ride tomorrow too, it's all good.
There are some great pics being posted ..Im struggling to see the stone circle though ...
The expression on the faces of the road racers is nothing different to what I usually see ..even when the sun is shining..😁
Postierich ..complete animal..47,361.ft.of climbing in March alone is probably more than I will do for the year !
Jekkyl..you go out alone in the dark ? brave man!
Mabie ..not ! (cancelled)
I'm having to rethink my riding plans for today as my son won't make it.Having had two days off school last week with a throat infection he is still not recovered ..he wanted to go but that was because he thought he would be letting me down..but I would rather take him when he was feeling a lot better than he is now..( bless him! ).
Bolts Law or a Cheviots ride ..?..hmmm.
Having been unable do to any more than bimble to the pub due to an odd groin strain/bollock pain thing going on for the last two months I finally managed a decent ride on Friday with MrsStu.😁
Muddy as **** in places but just so nice to be able to ride offroad again without being in pain.
Here's hoping I can try and get a little bit of fitness back again.
The week in Spain we have coming up soon should help on that front.

Not looking good for me ..just back from hospital with my son after a doctor appointment ..too late in the day for me to head to where I wanted to go ..and a local ride is not turning me on ..
Football it is then ..
Mine was very unexciting. Mostly road based, but better than Zwift

I had a great ride with two mates. Wetter than an otters pocket with the lying water but just huge fun. spring is round the corner, yay.
Day at home in Calderdale on Friday was minging, but a trip to Wales and revolution bike park has been in sun all day and amazing fun.
Quick laps of the woods this morning.
Tomorrow looks a total washout so tinkering time – new stem and fender to fit, maybe finally finish the bamboo road bike.
Sunday OK so something local but longer hopefully.
Monday’s forecast is horrendous but trip to Chicksands not called off yet.
3 down, one to go (maybe).
Was wet in the woods today. no rain, but the trails were holding a fair bit of water from yesterday. Little experiment with bike fit / geometry (thanks to Cy) was interesting but needs some more technical terrain than East Northants can offer to really test things out.
Lakes was awesome today. Much drier than I was expecting! Just a tour of the usual low-level and Grizedale, but brilliant to be out and not freezing cold!
Looking like Fairfield tomorrow if the wind allows!
Was looking at Fairfield from down there. Looked very snowy compared to some of the other peaks around...did you make it up there?
very jealous of those that have been out riding, way too much snow still here although the roads are clearing and its now plus temps. and super sunny. snowboarding with my lad today and tomorrow , plus a quick xc ski for me. now for more chocolate and beer. *boik*

My legs have been put through the wringer after today's unexpected group ride, ~77.5 miles, almost doubling the distance of my next longest ride by distance so far this year, when almost all my training has been climbing Mount Zwift in under an hour since Jan!.
SO18 heading north to New Alresford; then west and crossing into West Sussex to near Selbourne; a meander south to Petersfield for a welcome cafe stop with lots of sugar Calories and a coffee for my poor legs; before heading south-west home via the "lower farm to Mercury" cat4 (happy to knock my PB down by almost a minute to 7min8secs).
Got home and couldn't get the recording to upload, it was corrupt due to a memory full error, by luck I found a site to recover the data up until the memory was full and just have a ~6.5 mile manual entry. A little gutted it meant a hard effort up one of my local hill rep segments didn't get timed, but more relieved I eventually found a way to rescue most of the data (given it was first time out with my new 4iiii power meter).
With three partial efforts up Alpe Du Zwift since Friday by "teleporting" in. this week is now my second best week by distance and best for climbing, getting my random 2018 target of 400,000 feet of climbing a bit more on track after having to cut back on rides in Feb... Only down side is, I think I'm now deep into "overtraining" territory on fitness/fatigue/form guides.
Trip down to Glentress this morning with one of my mates I've not seen in a good while. Dusting of snow Spooky Woods made it interesting.
Dubbs Jenkins Loughrigg Fairfield Alcock Tarn and back cracking day!

Mortal Man ?
An invitation to get absolutely hammered ?
I'd be looking for a pub named Knackered Man ..
Mortal Man ?
An invitation to get absolutely hammered ?
Rich only gets hammered when someone else is paying.😋
Double raindrop all day forecast tomorrow. What a pita!
Continued my long road back to fitness with a morning spin up to Rivi Pike and back. Nice to be out in the sunshine.

So far this weekend:
Fri: A day of putting trails back together including an old favourite back in action.
Sat: A day of hill climbing and sharp descents in the steep-sided Teign Valley.
Sunday: 60km MTB ride or me. Very wet and sloppy in parts, rode some trails I've not ridden in ages, and bagged a reasonable amount of hills.
Mon: Not sure yet. Hopefully out for a road ride. possibly more trail maintenance
Reasonably comfortably over 2k climbing and about 80 km for this weekend so far, quite happy with that.
Rich... whats the Footpath up to the Hause like ? I've only ever gone up the Bridleway. It almost looks rideable from those pics.
Been a normal working weekend for me, so add in some child duties and I've been surviving on chilly wet road rides around ma hood.

lowey/rich how does going up that side compare with what we normally do which is up sweden bridge to the top then across to fairfield?
Graft, graft and more graft on the house....with cheeky local spin out with stevestunts, having an explore on the low fells. No picspbut Cheered the weekend right up.
I took a spin from the door with my overnight kit. Picked up part of the fred Whit route over the western fells with an over night stop in Ambleside.
I had the option of carrying on that route or a shorter return. Fresh snow on the tops and a strong wind made me decide on the soft option. The slog up Dunmail raise was pretty grim in a strong headwind and sleet! The breakfast in Keswick made it all seem worth while. My first trip in the tent this year here`s hoping there are plenty more.

Decided to tick off my third 100km ride of the year yesterday after work. Bit cold and windy but at least it stayed dry.
Wore my Flanders socks in preparation for watching the race with my dinner.
Big foot done the Sweden Bridge way once and never again!!
Second week of camping on the edge of the catalán Pyrenees, almost overwhelmed with options. I'm riding a road bike with 40mm tyres which has made the terrain a bit challenging though, a lot of carrying yesterday, and we've ridden a lot of gravel roads too. Road ride tomorrow up the Mare de Deu del mont, which is a 20km climb then a mix of single track and gravel to descend back to base, going to be a wrench returning to cold wet Basque mountains next week.
Cracking day Saturday

Friday potter locally - no pics.
Chasing DofE groups around Loch Ard forest area - all forest tracks, lots of back and forth as I had two groups moving at very different speeds, so saw the same stretches of forest track three times....Nice to have a good few hours solitude in the sunshine though. I lay on the ground like a solar panel...

Today a very cold ride with youngest_oab at Carron Valley.

in the Manx hills
Looks very dry there.
*checks ferry times*
Most of it was dry, not so today ⛈🌧⛈🌧
Tell me about it.
Had a taste of nice dry trails up in Tweed Valley last weekend, makes it all the more painful that it's a slopfest round here again now.
Rich - how are you dropping off Heron Crag towards Alcock Tarn? Can't see much of anything on the map or aerial shots?
That track up towards Hause Gap looks lovely.
Martin.. . just after Lord Crag there is an unmarked path that doubles back and descends to Alcock tarn.

There is a small cairn that marks the spot.
Cheers Lowey <S>Rich</S>. I see it now. Been spending half the day browsing OS maps and Geograph in front of the burner. 🙂 That looks like a fantastic way to get to and from Fairfield.
it is a good descent from the top of fairfield then down by alcock tarn. you can also push up nab scar to do the alcock tarn descent if you're wanting a short ride or to fit in with something else.
rich - i don't mind the sweden bridge way, fair bit of pushing but you also get a short but nice rocky descent in the middle
