Hi All,
I've currently got an On One Bootzipper setup as a flat bar, single speed bike. I'd quite like to build into a more "monstercross" type bike with 1x11 and flared drop bars.
Here's where it gets a bit complicated....
My freehub is an XD (Novatec hub) and I don't think it will be easy to source an alternative freehub.
I also have spare 1x11 Sram GX stuff I could use, but I'd need a drop bar shifter as well as brakes.
Was thinking maybe a bar-end shifter and some TRP Hylex brakes? When I'm working it out though, it's getting expensive! Is there an obvious or cheaper solution to get what I want?
Therein lies the problem, you have to fiddle with the shifters and brakes, new stem too. You could perhaps get force shifters to work with your existing sram mtb mech using a jtek shiftmate or cable guide from a donor force mech.
Left field suggestion - just throw on some stubbie bar-ends and aerobars.
Does your GX stuff include a cassette? GX Mech with work with Apex hydraulic shifters. What are your existing brakes?
Can of worms then!
Yeah, got a couple of cassettes too. My existing brakes are a mix of cheap Shimano non-series and a Clarkes M2. Brakes are a bit pants, but just got the bike rolling.
It might be a bit too expensive to just swap bars I guess... Would have looked pretty good though.
I think I may have some spare Guide calipers if they'd work with Apex too, but then I guess the shifters aren't cheap?
Any 1:1 actuation SRAM road levers will work with your GX mech. On my Peregrine I use a SRAM TT bar end shifter and an X1 rear mech with TRP Spyres and Cane Creek brake levers.
I toyed with idea for a while last year:
TRP Hylex hydro brakes
Novatec free hubs are easy to find - just need to ID your hub model
If you're feeling flush, SRAM eTap mech and bar-end click shifters
You can have the Apez Hydraulics with cassette and Mech for 400
I can't let this get out of hand! 🙂
I'll investigate the freehub, but I've got a feeling I tried before and hit a dead end.
Hmm, best solution so far is TRP brakes or some of those JuinTech things. Look for some cheap 11 speed sram shifters. Don't mind the brakes being half-cable as it's only for going on rides out of my door when the missus is working weekends.
