I have a new bike and it has SRAM NX eagle on it with a 32t chain ring and 11-50 cassette. I’m finding the gearing a bit to easy especially following on from my previous set up of 2x10 with a 38-26 chain set and 11-36 cassette. Looking on a bike gear calculator web site, which also allows for wheel/tyre size, it would suggest getting either a 34 or 36 chainring to give me a similar ratio set up.
Being new to Eagle if i change to the 34t chainset do i need to change the chain? I would expect to if i go with the 36t
For context even with my old set up i very rarely used first gear and finding my self on really using up to the 42t and even then only once so far.
Chain wise, you might be OK with a 34, you will need a new one with a 36. One thing to bear in mind, is if your frame will accept a 36t ring.
Even if you don't use the low gears much, you might, and without a longer chain I would think it will end badly when you do.
