Is a sram Eagle X01 cassette worth the extra £160 over a GX eagle cassette in terms of shifting and wear? Any real world comparisons?

Weight is the main point of difference there.

I have an X01 cassette on one bike & a GX on the other. They both shift the same, depends if you can justify the extra cost for the weight saving 🙂

It's hard to get my head around someone asking whether a cassette is worth an EXTRA £160 vs. an already really expensive cassette.

Anything over a ton seems mad to me, but I guess if you've already upgraded all the actually important bits and want to save weight it might make some kind of sense.

I was curious to seee how much weight you'd save, but Sram don't publish the weights on their websites (and they're not on product listings either). Which seems a bit arrogant/****less.

They do up to 11sp, maybe it's because Shimano don't (last time I looked)

It's fairly easy to find the weights:

NX - 612g
GX - 448g
X01/XX1 - 360g

I was hoping, maybe blindly, you would get twice the life out of the more expensive ones, because of some extra special secret coating, if its just weight, I’m not sure I could push to paying the extra £2 per gram difference for the x01, over GX. then maybe I should look at the NX, but 612g for a cassette? That does sound heavy, compared to my current 10 speed setup.

Don't honestly know what the lifespan will be. Personally, coming from an XX1 setup that did a bonkers mileage, would still take a new chain on the cassette & shifted well, I don't know what they could do to increase it further.

I'm assuming my X01 will last just as long as it's essentially the same, just with another cog on it. That said, the GX Eagle cassette is also steel on the 1-11 range, so I would probably bet it lasts as long as the X01.

Yes they cost a chunk more than Shimano, but i'd have gone through 3/4 cassettes in the same time. When it all comes out in the wash, I bet the cost difference is neutral. And the SRAM stuff is significantly lighter than Shimano.

then maybe I should look at the NX

The NX cassette fits on a Shimano hub, which I assume you don't have if you're looking at the others which are XD
