I’m thinking of trying a 30T chainring on my GX eagle (boost) setup this year. It looks as though SRAM offer a few options, but is there anything else I should consider?

AFAIK no one else has the eagle tooth pattern. You can run the steel NX level chainrings, they are a bit heavier, but a 1/3 of the price and in theory should last longer.

I've been using a non eagle specific 11 speed chain ring with my GX Eagle with no issues.

Thanks. Not sure if a need the eagle tooth pattern. I’ve not dropped a chain in nearly a year with eagle, but then I didn’t drop one the previous year with a NW setup either.

If you're fitting it to SRAM cranks I wouldn't look any further than the SRAM Eagle steel rings tbh - the cost saving and lifetime increase is well worth the negligible additional weight.

Thanks. With all these flippin' standards, sticking with SRAM rings is certainly the easiest option. But I suspect that's why they do it, so it feels like giving in 🙂

For £18 (Tredz, last time I bought a 30 steel Eagle direct mount chainring) you can’t go too far wrong. Nearly as cheap as dodgy Chinese alloy NW rings are.

And it’s easy to fit with just 3 bolts if I remember rightly.

I’ve got both steel and alloy versions - whilst the alloy ones are lighter I’d always buy steel for longevity when it comes to gears. Same with the gx 11 speed cassette that’s all steel - they last so long.

Thanks. Since the rest of the bike is steel, I'm not going to worry too much about a few grams on the chainring 🙂

I've got a Superstar 30T on my Sram XO1 cranks works and looks fine.
