Just seen these from the Sea Otter show - a Schrader valve with a base diameter to fit Presta rims.

I've no problems with Presta valves (don't see a need the recent innovations from 76Projects or Reserve Fillmore), but these seem a neat idea to make pre-ride air topups a little bit more convenient.

Not sure I get your drift.

They are addressing the same problem as the 76Projects and Fillmore valves but with a design my pump wont fit so I can see the merit but I’m out.

There's no top nut to unscrew and later screw back down.

I've got some Mavic adaptors like that.
Came with a pair of Crossmax wheels from years ago.
They're still in the packet as they're still pointless.

Surely an 8mm drill is a simpler option?

Ah. Thankfully I'm never so time-crunched that the extra 3 seconds matters.

Regular Shrader for the win. It solves all the problems as these new ‘solutions’ for a fraction of the price.

If only we could persuade bike manufacturers to use an industry standard valve.

I'm not enough of a Schrader fan to take a drill to my rims, but then I'm probably not enough of a fan to pay for these when I have working Prestas either. Didn't realise Stans and Joes (and others presumably) do tubeless Schrader valves.

But these need a valve cap that you'll need to remove and replace, otherwise they'll get mud in and leak.

Been drilling out my rims for schrader for years (since we we went to 30mm width). Ne reason not to...its just better. For carbon rims Iv been using a hand rauter but it's time consuming..might just drill the next set

Why not buy those little adaptors from Aliexpress? A handful for a few quid. Less to go wrong. Of course some artisan producer won't be able to fleece the suckers that way.

You mean you don't fit a cap to your Preata valves?! #shudders

Presumably an adapter is just for the thread, so the Presta core is still occuping a lot of the width of the shaft diameter.
