eh ?
Been googling to find a cheap one and some sellers have pics up that don't look like what I'd been expecting:
is this really e-type ?

I don't believe it is. It's a low direct mount. Is that a Specialised "thing"? I've not seen anyone else use it. E-type has a plate with a large hole to fit the bottom bracket cup through.

That would be a yes, but if you need the BB plate you'll need to buy a derailleur that has it :).

Bugger, beaten to it.

It's an E2. Which is what you were looking for but without the bottom bracket plate.

thanks chrisd - just been out rattling around the garage and I think I've found a bodgetastic solution (chain retention really, rather than shifting) that I'm going to try first.

cheers, though. You might still get a message from me in a couple of weeks, or keep a lookout fro a thread entitled "I've ruined my bike with shit bodging" 😳

I need (if I go 2x10) an e mount. My current bike has 2x8 with an e mount but the mech is a one piece thing rather than the two piece they seem to be now. Can you buy the mount plate on its own as nowhere seems to sell them

Before you buy a plate, double check yours hasn't got a removable one, as the screws are often hidden behind a layer of gunge. Based purely on memory and personal experience, I was thinking they were all removable, but may be wrong. New ones are available from any shop with a Madison account, part no. Y5M550000, for a FD-M980-E BB PLATE at £14.99. Others may also be available if you're willing to trawl through Shimanotechdocs to find part no.s.
