As per title any recommendations please for a rear tyre for a 75 kg rider who rides pretty light/line picker who likes to 'feel' the trail. Been using Kenda Small Block 8 for years 2.4 on the hardtail.

Don't want to go as wide as a 2.6 so 2.4/2.5.

I was looking the DHR2 Exo plus 2.4WT Maxterra (I'm sure I've missed something) for when my Hans Dampf 2.6 is done but given the thread about knobs ripping of the DD version not so sure. Also not much feedback on the Exo plus and IME the standard Exo defo isn't up to it on an Ebike

Schwalbe rock razor?
I use one on my ebike, and I’m a heavy rider too.
Has lasted well, but is definitely for dry conditions only.

I like 2.8 rekon[not in mud tho but compared to the drag of mud shortys they feel like a feather], am planning to drop to 2.6 next time - just to see what they're like, they also do 2.4. (*slow, old bimbler perspective)

Minion SS exo 2.3
dual compound
and run at a decent pressure (not soft)

EXO is up to Ebike use for anyone who...

who rides pretty light/line picker who likes to ‘feel’ the trail.

See that hardtail you're building Dave? you could do a lot worse than take it out enduro riding with Exos. it'll (eventually) teach you how to ride fast down gnarly trails without puncturing.

I was going to suggest Minion SS actually - sounds just right...

(Swoons at prospect of thinking along same lines as Geex 😉)

Exo wasn't up to my riding on an analogue bike Gary. I dont like destroying expensive tyres so I'll pass.

And take a SS hardtail that's two sizes too small out enduro riding? GTF.

Otherwise top tips though, thanks so much.

Pffftt... no adult bike is too small.

Been riding 100mm DJ bikes down manky steep Scottish (what are now considered Enduro) trails for decades. it definitely teaches you how to be light over rough ground and nicer to a rear tyre.

*smelling salts for tim* (sorry not my smell, it's just too arousing)

I think the Minion SS is just a bit too narrow - comes up more like a 2.2 I think.

I know a DHR II will be a bit more draggy but considering this one:

https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Maxxis-Minion-DHR-II-Folding-EXO-TR-WT-WideTrail-MTB-Mountain-Bike-27-5-650B-Tyre_95530.htm

Or the High Roller II??

As ever confused by Maxxis models - is this the 3C or the 'one' to have?

nope

for fastest rolling (longest lasting) Dual Compound is the one.
it's something like a 60a centre 50a edge (I can't remember exactly)
3c have tripple compounds (centre/edge/and supporting rubber underneath) and are all softer centrally and edge wise.
Maxxgrip and maxterra determine the durometers used.
for ref. We used to all be fine riding 70a single compound tyres for XC and trail centre use befor the SKY FELL IN and wea all NEEEDED MOAR GRIP for the exact same trails. 😉

DHRII and HRII are both quite a lot more draggy by tread design than the SS.
pumped up to 50psi+ they roll quite a bit better on smoother hardpack/roads/trail centre/jumps. HRII rolling slightly better than the DHRII

I wouldn’t bother with the High Roller 2 - the only time it’s better than a DHR2 is in sticky mud because it clears well. Otherwise it’s slower rolling, worse braking, worse driving grip and worse cornering grip in pretty much all conditions, if comparing in a 2.3

In a 2.4 I think the DHR2 rolls about as slow, it’s much slower than the 2.3 DHR2, but again it beats the HR2 every other way.

The Minion SS 2.3 rolls quicker than the DHR2 2.3 but not by all that much. And it’s good fun if you can live without the braking grip.

The dual compound rolls faster than 3C and is tougher and basically better for a rear tyre in all ways.

I havent had a problem with Exo tyres on my other bikes or the similar toughness Grid tyres on my Levo.

If I were you I’d go with a Minion SS 2.3 or a DHR2 2.3 - the latter will work well all year, the former will not cope well once the mud arrives.

I’m liking the Rimpact inserts too.

Cheers guys - just cannot help thinking that the Minion SS (not owned one but going by that German site comes up at 2.2) is going to be lacking on the back of the Levo. It's narrower than the 2.35 Small Block 8 I've run for years on my HT.

I did check out some discussions on here from the last year mentioning the DHR II 2.4 being much more aggressive (and draggy?) than the 2.3. I know these are all 0.1 inch here and there but often it amounts to far more than a fraction as the design changes too.

Another consideration was the Kenda Helldiver?

The casing on the Minion SS is barely any smaller than the casing on a DHF 2.5 or DHR2 2.4 - but the side knobs don’t stick out as far sideways.

The knobs on a DHR2 2.4 are much bigger and more widely spaced than on the 2.3 - the same is true of the 2.5 and 2.3 DHF.

you're running an insert with an SS?

FFS Chief stop being a fashion handbag and just put MOAR air in it.

Cheers Chief and Gary - seems the 2.3 then. Need to stop thinking and try them I guess. Just wanted to get some tips before wasting money - as we know used tyres are worth peanuts.

Any idea which exact compound (ie specific model) to look for then - all retailers seem to list a muddle of names.

Haven't used the hellcat but the BBG is an absolutely awesome semi slick tyre.
albeit flimsy AF though.
and narrower than an SS
The lighter Kenda casings I'd only recommended for really finesseful riders. but you know that already. right?

I think this one? (dual comp, silkworm)

You've got an ebike, the heck are you worrying about rolling resistance for? Get yourself gripped up properly!! 😆

And buy an extra battery if you are worried about distance!
