I have a friend that had a big road traffic accident that has meant he has a badly fused ankle and some nerve damage. Several operations later and it seems like he wont be riding his mtb in the short term.
He has spoken to me about getting an E-gravel bike, and his head has been turned by a Cairn bike which has a Fazua motor.
My feeling was that Bosch or Shimano was the way to go. Has anyone got one of these bikes or recommend something in an e-bike format that will take 45mm tyres to help my mate come riding again?

I've been looking for similar. Mrs_oab has a long term illness that's really impacting her fitness and strength.

The closest I've come up with as an allround, gravel but also touring, light (13kg) but enough help, racks and guards is an Orbea Gain.
It's available in flat or drop bar, road and gravel. Up to 40mm tyres.

I'm looking at the F25 at £2.1k.

It's also one of the few that comes in xs flavour to cope with mrs_oab's lofty 5' stature.

Couple of friends have the Orbea Gain and love it.

I think I saw something about an e version of Ribbles CGR, but may have dreamt it

Had a test ride on the new Specialized Cree - really nice and pretty light and the way the motor drive disengaged makes it relatively easy to pedal - the only problem was it was £8k!

Haven't ridden the Cairn but have demoed an eMTB with the Fazua motor. I definitely wouldn't discount it, it's very smooth and does a good job of making you forget there's a motor there while still making hills a lot easier. It didn't have the punchiness of the Bosch motor but that was on a 20kg bike, I imagine it would be plenty on a relatively light road bike, plus it's removable.

I’ve recently ordered an electric Ribble CGR, it’s due in a few days so I’ll be able to tell you more about it then. I ordered without riding one so a bit of a punt.

I'm thinking this is the way forward for mrs_oab.
E-bike for touring, but with 'just enough' rather than oodles of turbo powah. They only weigh 13.5kg as well, so much easier to manage than other things we've tried.

Does anyone know of similar all round road and forest track bike of around £2k with xs sizing?
