I got my wife into cycling a few years ago. We have a tandem which she loves and we do quite a few weekend touring rides on it, she has a nice Liv road bike that she can do up to 50 or 60 miles on and again she really enjoys it. But she has never had an MTB so doesn't ride offroad with me.She wants to give it a try and has suggested she gets an E-MTB.

I have a Trek Rumblefish, don't do anything too extreme, mainly bridleways and fire roads with the occasional trip to Sherwood Pines or Thetford are the most adventurous things we are likely to do.

So any suggestions for a relatively low cost E-MTB for a newbie. She is 5'2 if that makes a difference.

Thanks
Nick.

If she can do 50-60 mile road rides why does she need an eBike? And I’m asking that as an eBiker. You’re only bumbling about and you’ll get a much better bike for the money if you’re not paying for the motor and battery.

She has it in her head she wants an E-bike. I just don't know where to start. Everything seems to be £3k minimum.

If she’s not tons slower than you on a road bike then I don’t see the point of an ebike. At 5’2 she’s unlikely to have the strength, weight or leverage to handle an ebike as easily as a similar MTB.

I suggest you try to borrow/hire a small enough MTB for her and go on a ride together, and see if she likes it.
