I normally get pretty near
to empty on my rides.
Once charged up my range is normally 99 miles on eco ,70 ish on tour.
Last week I did a much hillier route and on turning my bike on after a charge it said 29 miles on tour.
It did slightly recalculate on yesterday's ride which was shorter than normal.
After a charge last night it now says 27 miles on tour.
Will it eventually go back to calculating the original range or is something wrong? Bike has done 200 miles.

Think the range is calculated from the last ride you did.
I just ignore the range now and just keep a check on the battery indicator.
If it's a Bosch I think you can reset the range with the remote.
And if you're wanting to do longer rides keep it on eco mode.

My Mahle one does that. If I've been using it in the lowest setting, it'll go to 100km, if I'm rinsing it in turbo, it'll drop 40 40. New is started at 80 and now it's 90 coming up a year later based on nearly 1000km of running.
I never ride it more than 30km max so it's not an issue but does seem 'about right'.
It would be more accurate if range was quoted in maximum vertical ascent - for anywhere you can do proper MTBing the hills you pedal up matter far more than how far you’re travelling.
The algorithm used to calculate range varies by motor manufacturer, I havent found one yet that was anywhere near accurate for actual mountain biking - they're best ignored - to be fair to them it must be pretty hard to come up with a single method that works for someone who only rides on flat canal tow paths and for people that do winch and plummet style riding.
Found that Bosch is pretty accurate based on the riding you are doing at the time. I've came to the conclusion it bases the range based on an average of the last 5 or so miles you ridden. Come home and charge after a hilly ride using lots of assistance and it'll still have that in it's brain until you done a different type of riding for long enough to change what it's expecting. Not usually a problem unless you've had a long flat ride but a giant climb at the end that is the same length as your claimed remaining range.

The Bosch does indeed use your previous rides to calculate range and you can reset it. Mine was always pretty accurate but I only once got the battery to below 20% on an 80 mile, hilly ride in Eco. Basic rule of thumb for me was 1% per mile regardless of the elevation profile on the road. Whenever I started from a full charge it would read 112 miles range but after a 40 mile ride I always had 60% left no matter what the route was. Obv rinsing it in Turbo up muddy banks would have diminished that but I never did that sort of riding on it.
My e road bike however is a marvel. I reckon it will do well over 150 miles easily and 220 plus with the range extender.
100 miles must be lots of towpath riding. Struggle to see how that range is achieved with any decent climbing. Unless 900wh batteries? As someone said I base my estimates on ascent and ignore the range indicator. I know I can get 4000-4500 feet of ascent. Whether that’s over 10 miles or 25 miles seems to matter little. I’ll never do more than say 25 miles or rather I never do riding on flat so will never get a range much more than that regardless.
Like I said about 1% per mile regardless of the elevation profile on my Bosch powered HT with a 625Wh battery. I did the Daffodils Velo29 sportive on it which is 80 miles and 1800m climbing and had about 20% left at the end (might have been 16%, I didn’t make a note but enough anyway). I regularly did 40 miles with 1000m of climbing and had 60% left at the end. Totally in Eco mode though with Schwalbe Almotion tyres. I’m using the past tense as I have a road bike now (HT for sale 😉) because I do mostly road riding and I couldn’t keep up on the flat on the club rides I was doing every Sunday. Definitely not just towpath riding.
On my e-mtb, there are too many variables to even think about range calculation. I know I'm generally good for around 20 miles/2500ft on a 504wh battery - if I think I'll be going further, I take a spare
