Hi all.
My parents have tasked me with finding them 2 e-bikes that match the following criteria

1. <£2500 each
2. For use on roads, gravel and farm tracks.
3. Looks like a mountain bike (no commuter/hybrids)

Something like this I think.

I’m not clued up with ebikes so need the help of the hive mind.

Depending on how agile your parents are (at the moment, and in the future), the Islabike eJimi might be of interest. Their Icon range is specifically designed for older riders. Slightly over your price limit, though.

How old are they? No shame in a step thru for a non-performance bike once you think a little more European and less UK 'that's a girls bike'.

Is the 'looks like a mountain bike' your criteria or theirs? IMO it's very misguided. Its a mindset close to the Halford Apollo clunker mtb bought exclusively to ride to work and has never seen mud aberration at was all too common. The best thing about e bikes like this is that weight it not the issue anymore - you can have guards and racks and even a less aero upright position without the usual penalties. Also manufacturers have cottoned on and sorted some hybrid ebikes with wider tyres making them plenty capable for what you describe but a load more practical than a mtb-but-not shaped bike.

Cube is a great choice of brand for an ebike I'd say - but that model is a vanity choice rather than a sanity choice.

This is too much money but the sort of thing I was talking about - https://www.cube.eu/uk/2021/e-bikes/mountainbike/hardtail/nuride-hybrid/cube-nuride-hybrid-sl-625-allroad-polarsilvernblack-easy-entry/

My mum got an eJimi and loves it. She's convinced it's lighter than her old xc Kona which I don't think it can be but it's light for an ebike.

They are late 50’s early 60’s.
My father would prefer to walk than ride that step through.

Its a fair wether purchase so won’t need mudguards.

Is there something similar to the cube thats better vfm?

I've spent a couple of months looking and think the Cube is about the best price to spec ratio. The only thing I think lets Ebikes down is choosing a suntour fork. The coil version weighs 6lbs.

I was looking at the STEREO HYBRID 120 RACE 625 ALLROAD

That's exactly what i am looking for my dad as he finds getting his leg over difficult. Most of the step though look such poor quality. Considering doing a conversation but step though bikes in general seem to be very low quality.

@TheBrick did you see this review of the eJimi? https://singletrackmag.com/charged/2020/12/19/islabikes-ejimi-e-bike-a-real-world-review/

Do have a look at the cubes - I really think they are a cut above in the value/spec ratio (and do some v expensive ones too). Basically for some of their ranges they by default to the same model in 3 frame configurations with the same spec of components. They are not all as expensive as the one I posted.

This article is good reading - https://ebike-mtb.com/en/best-off-road-step-through-e-bike-review/
It's about a year old and things have moved on again but even so the BULLS E-STREAM EVO 1 WAVE 27.5+ looks a beast and is what would be perfect for my wife who with a hip issue struggles getting on/off but she wants a more off road bike than the one I posted earlier. Sadly not easy to get in the uk and post brexit I'd imagine impossible.

The ejimi does look good too.

I just got one of these. Much cheaper anything else I have seen. Seems good quality and I am enjoying using it.

Put some mudguards and rack on it. It has wide tires so it will do gravel and light off road. I am not sure what spending more would get you.

Cheap ebike on crc
