Not that I know of.

Was out on some focus ebikes last night at a demo, with the tech pack fitted they'll do 50km around the likes of inners even with all the climbing.

After that amount of descending, you're burst anyway!.

Surely somewhere sterile like BPW will have charging points for electric Moto X riders?

Oooh get you and your edgy self.

Most ebikes will do 2 laps of any trail centre on 1 charge, in full turbo mode. Can't see there would be demand for a charger.

Not seen an at the trail centres Ive been to, how much charge can you get in an hour lunch break?

Ive done the BPW Beast of Burden climb in 15 mins in turbo on a Specialized Kenevo, used 35% battery though so you could get 3 full runs maybe, more in trail or Eco

Ive also got TrailWatts Battery extender (252wh) with this fitted the same climb uses 25% battery (the extender and bike battery work in tandem) the extender is great for rides where you don't want to carry a spare battery in a back pack

If your a trail centre only rider then might be worth investing in a 2nd hand spare battery so you can just swap over when you run of of power

You'd expect it won't be long in coming though. Either that or maybe battery hire for 1/2 days etc

Don't climb in turbo?.

Eco on those focus bikes was fine, battery will last a lot longer.

Had three days riding at Transcend last week and still came back with some juice in the Levo battery.
Was chatting with the Specialized guys who had a fleet of demo Levos for testing, was looking at their multi charging stand, and I got the impression that they hadnt charged the bikes over the weekend.
Not sure I would want to be riding in Turbo much. Eco and trail get me where I want to go.

Levo would be my choice with an upgrade to the 700wh battery (only available on the expert and s-works as standard) then sell the 500wh to recoup some of the cost or keep and use as a back up

Lots of support for the Levo and Kenevo out there, if you do go Levo join the Facebook page, lots of tips and support with help from dealers plus members who are making parts like custom mudguards, battery extenders, stronger springs for Kenevo's etc....

Lidl had cheap 1KW generators last week. That, a trailer and a jerry can and you've got a decent range extender right there.

Valley what a great question. I really can't see any down sides for trail centre use

Our Tourneo Custom came with a factory fitted inverter but not had to use it yet and not sure how long it would take it to charge

Ahhhh, the blessed sound of a generator. Especially cheap ones. It's what weekends in the countryside were made for.

Get a really long extension cord or if you can't find a really long get loads of cheap ones and plug them all into each other to make a really long one 👍

I suppose you could just push those pedal things when the battery runs out.

If you push them enough you'll move forwards and the harder you push them the faster you'll go. It's old tech but seems to work alright if you are unable to rely on something else to do the work for you.

Yeah you're right, I need to add some ear defenders to Ben's Patented e-bike Portable Range Extender.

That’s brilliant, you’ve compared an ebike to a motor bike, because both have a motor! I’m surprised nobody else has done that before.

Well that sounds like a flat battery waiting to happen either that or a whole lot of entirely unnecessary pollution

No different than the loads of campers and vans parked up running the engines to charge up the leisure batteries last thing at night or first thing on a morning just so they can keep the phone charged up. You could set your watch by it at Transcend last weekend.

2 wrongs don't make a right

Likewise you'll be running your engine for a while to get any meaningful charge into an ebike battery.

I did say we haven't used it, and won't get a generator due to the noise and pollution. Like wise the camper solar will even charge when the conditions are bad so don't need to run the engine. Wouldn't it be great if we were all considerate towards others.

Yep. That’s how ebikes work.

Well done you.

Just get yourself one of these then 'nealglover'if it's about the minimal pedal effort to movement ratio.

Cut out the middleman, so to speak, with all that awkward recharging nonsense.

The logical progression of E-bike idleness.

Is that a crossbow on the back? Would be handy for those Strava related incidents.

You obviously don't ride an e-bike, us e-bikers refuel on one or two of these

How many coffees does it take to recharge an e-bike?

Looks good.

But to be honest it’s more about the minimal cost to annoying people ratio.
As a standard ebike seems to annoy people a rather baffling amount. I will stick with that 👍

Thanks though ‘sootyandjim’ Very thoughtful 😘

We went on a 35k ride once in the Peak District. One of the group was on an Ebike in Eco Mode. The battery nearly ran out at the end.
Slow climbing as well as he never went out of Eco!
If that's as far as they can do, then I'm not convinced at all to buy one!

Is that once upon a time in history ?

My pregnant wife hired a haibike in Majorca and did 110k polensa to sa colabra (right down to the village) and back the long way

Still had 10% left .

Love how everyone is ignoring the trolls like a naughty little child 🙂

I thought of this thread when I went to Llandegla today. I noticed they had outdoor charging stations for ebikes (they seem very popular there).

I stopped to have a drink after a climb next to two older guys on ebikes. Heard one of them say he would have packed MTB in by now if it wasn't for his ebike. Surely anything that can prevent you giving up is a good thing?

Personally, the charging points seem like a good idea.

Grannyjone, too many variables with ebikes to pass judgement on them all. It's possible to buy ebikes with hub motors and tiny 125Wh batteries. Point one of those at a hill and it will die within a few miles. It's also possible to buy 1000Wh+ batteries with mid-drive motors, those will go further than you'd ever want to in a day.

Someone asked how much charge you could get over an hour for lunch. I don't have an exact answer but if you plugged a 6A bosch charger into a dead ebike you'd be looking at 216Wh of charge or about 45% on a 500Wh battery. Not bad at all! Other batteries and chargers could well do more than that.

Giant e bikes have a fast load feature which gets to 60% in an hour

Is that using a standard plug? Or is it with a specific charging point interface?

Its a shame they never kept the demo at the Kilpatrick hills,we demo'd the same bikes up there from the shop in Partick,WOW.....that whole climb from carpark to top in 15 minutes in Eco,and it usually takes me 30-40 minutes to ride it on my own bike,Defo got my attention now

You guys do seem to be complicating things. I've just ordered an ebike with a dynamo front hub :-).

With that plugged into the battery I'll be straight out for a second loop while your sitting around coughing on your own generator fumes....

Aye, true, but tbf Cathkin means more folk can try more models, there's loads more lines now, including some lovely handcut stuff in the woods that you'd love!.

You can buy car power bank things complete with a built-in invertor / or cigarette plug outlet for 12v power. I'm guess one of those would charge an e-bike battery in some way - basically a 12v car battery in a fancy housing.

"is that using a standard plug"

Yeah, when chargers say 6A they mean 6A to the battery, so 6A at 36V in bosch's case. As for current from the wall they'll be drawing about 1A, well within the rating of a normal 13A wall plug.

It's cars that need tens of kilowatts to charge and some funky plug interface.

Bosch have a 12v version of their battery charger. An hour on my Shimano would top up a mornings use 50ish percent to 75ish 80ish again. I think their 4 hour charge to full from empty is actually nearer 3.
